Advantages: clarity, refresh rate, 1600x1200 max res
Disadvantages: awkward to clean screen
This monitor came as standard with my Evesham 1333SK about a year or so ago. It was one of the reasons I purchased the 1333SK!! As one of the most expensive, (still is as far as I'm aware) 17" screens, I wondered what it had that others don't. The main benefit of this screen is that it can handle high resolutions with incredible refresh rates. Now, correct me if I'm wrong ( no, go on, please do ), but 100 hz @ 1280x768 resolution is very good. I've not come across another monitor able to achieve this, not a 17" anyway. Its so stable, that I often sit here staring, trying to catch it out. But alas no, not a flicker, murmur, trip or anything else!! All this using a lowly Geforce 2 mx card! The single problem I have with it is cleaning the screen!! It has a very effective anti-glare coating, but is very susceptible to fingerprints, smearing etc. I have tried glass cleaners from around the world, everything Pc World sell. The heat sensitive controls on the front are excellent, making it one of the easier to set up monitors I have had to, well, set up! As mine lives in the lounge, looks do count, even on something as 'boring' as a computer monitor. And, as far as monitors go, it does look okay, its seen mainly from a side perspective, from which it looks reasonably modern and shapely!! I have never had eyestrain using this monitor, and rarely do I have to shut the curtains to block the sun, as the anti- glare is excellent. The base is stable, and moving the monitor on it doesn't cause undue movement. This is removable as to facilitate shelf or desktop pc mounting. The four rear mounted USB connectors, are a great idea, but why on the rear? USB is supposed to enable hot switching of devices, not really promoted by fumbling round the rear of the monitor!! £175 may seem dear compared to some 17" monitors curretly available, but it really is worth the extra. LG charged
about £230 for them when they first came out, but seen side by side next to other brands, there really doesn't seem to be a comparison. Evesham still specify them with many new PCs, surely if people made many complaints, Evesham would have changed the brand or model, this itself must mean something positive....

- 01/08/02 Comprehensive op. Save those babywipes for toilet time use, though - very handy. |

- 01/08/02 You could try a mild baby wipe on the screen, you're not supposed to, but it's what I do! |
