Advantages: It works

Disadvantages: None so far

The 17" Packard Bell monitor that came with the Packard Bell imedia 6200 computer came complete with a pair of Diamond Audio Technology speakers that clip onto each side, a power lead, a connecting lead to the tower and a warranty booklet in umpteen different languages but no manual. I even had to get the model number of A726 from the box. Then again you don’t need a manual unless you want to know any technical details about the monitor, like refresh rate and scan rate etc.

I was assured by the PC World salesman that the monitor had a fast refresh rate but he couldn’t or wouldn’t tell me what it was. He could, however, quote me chapter and verse as to the cost and duration of a service plan. He also assured me that it was suitable for all possible current screen modes and as far as I can tell it is. At least it displays quite adequately the top resolution of 1280 x 1024 that the computer can muster.

It takes up a desk area of 2 feet wide by 18 inches deep and stands just under 18 inches tall. It has a swivel and tilt base that on my set-up puts the top of the screen level with my eyes. Not exactly ideal but with the screen tilted upwards it’s just about O.K. A suitable base to put the centre of the screen level with my eyes is on the cards and will be forthcoming just as soon as I find a bit of timber and time.
