Disadvantages: low quality picture tube

The last thing a monitor should be is hard to look at. And this is the problem with the Philips 109B. It's marred by terrible image quality that's sure to give you the visual equivalent of seasickness. The low price just isn't worth that.
Unappealing Display
Although our testing found the quality of text and images to be decent, the 109B has fundamental flaws that make it unappealing to look at. The most obnoxious is the very noticeable moiré pattern that casts a spiderweblike pattern on most background colors. Psychedelics are definitely not a plus on a monitor. This flaw is exacerbated by the very uneven color balance across the monitor's surface: there's almost a checkerboard pattern of bright and not-so-bright splotches. Finally, we detected noticeable flicker when we dimmed the lights in our lab. Flicker can cause eyestrain and headaches, so be warned.
