Sony HMD-A220 ... feature-rich display offers stunning image quality. With 16 inches of viewable image size, you've got the visual terrain to explore multiple windows, panoramic images, and endless documents. Play games. Surf the Net. View fine text. Download dazzling images off the web. The FD Trinitron CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) renders vibrant colors with excellent saturation, so graphics look better.

The CRT, fine .24mm-.25mm aperture grill pitch and precise onscreen digital controls make the HMD-A220 a lot of image for the money. The FD Trinitron CRT is exceptionally flat. The flatter the CRT, the less the picture distorts from edge to edge. Flat also means less glare. Also reducing glare, the high-contrast black screen coating deflects ambient light and reduces washout. That means less eyestrain and more productive viewing sessions.

There is also a problem with size consistency across the width of the screen; this is more noticeable when playing games than when just using Windows applications. In side-scrolling games I've played I have noticed that objects coming in from the right hand side of the screen start off squashed horizontally, before becoming full size once in the middle, and get...more

Premium Review Sony HMD-A220: Nice price, shame about the geometry... (339 words)

I found this little flatscreen 17" Trinitron baby on ebuyer.com last July for about £200 ex VAT. Looked like an absolute bargain, and indeed when I received it I was very impressed. Not only is it beautifully designed, it is functional too, with a four port powered USB hub built in. The only thing I have to gripe about with the design is the stand, which is a completely detachable (and potentially loseable!) piece of plastic, tilting the monitor to a slightly less sharp angle. In short, it's an okay monitor, however I do have a couple of fairly serious quibbles with it. Firstly, the geometry is very poor. Premium Review Sony HMD-A220: Product v. good - service mixed (210 words)

Before we start this product is very smart and has an excellent picture - better than any other monitor (including Flat Screen) I have used so far, but ..... The CRT design requires 2 wires to support the screen and this results in 2 very very faint lines on screen. Only really visible when the screen is white , they annoyed me for a couple of weeks but now I don't notice them. Recommend you see the monitor working before buying. Sadly my original monitor failed and the warranty did not meet my expectations. A 3 year 'on-site exchange warranty' is promised in the documentation. In fact the exchange is for a refurbished monitor and only if ...  Read the complete review
