Advantages: Great image, easy to use and adjust
Disadvantages: I must REALLY nitpick here. It's not compact and flat, as in newer technology
I have had my Viewsonic PT775 since I bought it new, in April of 1997. Yes, you read that right (or left, if you're a southpaw.) :-)
It has been utterly dependable, with clear, bright and well defined images and rarely a need to adjust settings. However, changing settings is quite straightforward and easy to do. I read in a review that the controls are small and am frankly puzzled by that comment. If I were wearing heavily insulated, thick mitts that might be the case, but not for these hands of mine.
While LCD monitors now abound, and relatively cheaply now, I prefer viewing the image generated by a good CRT and its colour rendition, particularly for graphics and photo work.
I live in Toronto, Canada, and will be moving to the UK in the first few months or so of 2006, at which point this monitor will have had very nearly 9 years of heavy use. It is doubtful that I will take this monitor overseas but if that were not a consideration, I'd certainly bring it along. It still functions perfectly. I utilise it a great deal and it has been rare when a day or night has gone by without my using it.
The only other thing for which I might wish would be a completely flat screen. The PT775 is flat vertically but not horizontally, though I can't say it has been a problem.
Based on my experience with this monitor, I'd go out of my way to purchase a new Viewsonic, likely a flat screen CRT 19" model.
