Philips 14PV225 ... our daughters have received a TV/VCR combi from their nan for their 5th birthday. This year was Alices turn so with a nanny provided budget of £150 we went shopping. It s one thing shopping for a TV but shopping for something that a 5 year old can use is something else entirely. We dismissed Hitachi and Sony combo s as way too complicated; there were too many buttons on the remote controls, the buttons on the front were too small. Then there were the practical concerns; the SCART lead issue that I don t understand and which Mark considers highly important... Samsung DLP Projection TV ... 50" Samsung DLP was purchased in July 2004. The picture quality was outstanding, however, the quality experience ended in October when I placed my first service call for warrenty service because one of the component video ports stopped working. It took the local authorized dealer two weeks to respond to the call where upon he decided that parts would need to be ordered from Samsung. After another week and a half they returned with replacement analog and digital boards which solved the port problem. Toshiba 21S23 ... the picture quality is good, the TV picture is too large for the screen! Important text in credits and subtitles are often cropped on the left and right-hand size. Even worst, when Sky TV broadcasts its financial reports, the picture turns into wide-screen format, but the Toshiba does not adjust, and you loose even more of the picture. Unforunately there is no menu option to correct this, and Toshiba technical support have confirmed that there is no way to correct this.
