Advantages: Handy for saving space

Disadvantages: Could break individually

At home, we have limited space in our bedroom and we do not yet have our Sky Television pumped up to our bedroom.
Therefore, when I want to watch a video and hubby is watching Sky, I normally draw the short straw and retire to the bedroom with a cup of Coffee.
Rather than have a seperate TV and video taking up valuable space in the bedroom, we opted for this handy space saving alternative. A TV/Video combi.
We dod not want to spen a fortune on it and so bought a budget Aiwa model.
What a great buy it was.
Sure the TV quality and picture is not exactly caught up in the digital revolution but it is pleasantly watchable. The video is also along the same lines . Not brilliant but watchable.
What is good about this unit is no tuning in TV channels to find the Video recorder. Its all stored as a seperate channel.
Handy when I could do without going through the manual and working it out.
You get a remote control that has a limited range on it. Any further than 8 feet from the TV and it wont work. Bad design.
The video sits in the same chassis as the TV but underneath the screen. This makes the portable unit very tall. It also makes it very heavy.
We wall mounted it on a special bracket (not supplied) and took it down due to the strain it looked under.
It now sits on a bedside table taking up as much room as a normal portable tv if a bit taller.

It only has a 14 inch screen which is ample for most people but it is not a very flat tube. It does however have 2 speakers either side of the TV giving it a nice symmetrical look and good sound quality.
You can store up to 80 channels but I dont know why. Most people only have it in the bedroom away from Sky or Cable so only receive terrestrial channels. The channels set themselves up automatically which is excellent.
It also comes with a teletext function which is unusual for small televisions.

The Video has lots of functions that were once only f
ound on more expensive individual units. This includes Videoplus which is a great addition for me. I can program the video to record withe the greatest of ease using the numbers in the paper.
It is also possible to view NTSC video tapes. This is the format that the Americans use. My family in Colorado have sent videos of my cousin's wedding and we did not even need to get them converted.

Looking on the negative side, there could be a problem if either the TV or Video break. Being seperate appliances within one unit, they would result in the other being useless. True, oyu could still use it solely as a TV if the Video breaks but if the Screen busts and leaves the video, it is useless.
I hope this does not happen for a long time. At £120 it was cheap enough anyway.
