Advantages: Great Picture, sound .....
Having tentatively moved into the New Millennium, whether that be on the official year “2000” or the unofficial year “2001” or the general populace one “Frankly my “year” I don’t give a damn”
We decided that our pathetic looking yet trusted servant of 8 years had to go: Yes it was time for a new Television Receiver Set. Having looked at our trusted Hitachi 21” Opus Nicam Stereo for nearly a decade without a fault may I add, its death tolls where ringing. (Although my wife has consistently stated that she did not hear this interference on the set).
This action was undoubtedly set in motion with our upgrade to Digital Cable and the fact that in my old age I was gradually moving my chair closer to see, what in my eyes was becoming a portable.
In my wisdom, I popped round a few shops until I became utterly convinced that “what this family needed was a big mother” and the big mother was to take the shape of another Hitachi, yes the 32” Wide Screen Pro Logic…C28W411TN…zzzzzzz…… snore….
Not the most memorable name I agree, but a big Television Receiver Set indeed. My how proud I was when the nice engineer put the monster in our sitting room and almost evicted us to the dining room. Don’t worry, don’t despair, once we repositioned the furniture we where there! “Oh please!”
Now technically these things look small in the showroom and bloody big in your house. But as in all things after a while they look normal. I love it, watched all my fav movies: Highlander, Matrix, Gladiator: Maximus what a big boy he is on Wide Screen!, Barney Live in Hollywood” what quality, what a difference.
More technically, about the stuff that should make you want to grab one!
If set to AUTO and you receive transmissions in WSS Format (Wide Screen Signaling) then all of
your pictures will jump out from the normal 4.3 compression - that is normal telly size to 16.9 "Big Mutha" size!
If you do not get WSS, then screen format PANORAMIC will adequately emulate "Big Mutha" size!
Yawn! other formats, 16.9 L, for this read "Really Big Mutha", 14.9L, I have no idea why you would want any of these!
Lastly SUBTITLES for viewing... you tell me, no prizes.
In some screen shots, people look wider than they would appear normally, my wife loves this because "Steps" and "S Club 7" look positivly fatter! I love it because Kylie, ahem well there is more of her on screen and that would never be a bad thing. You do get used to this anomaly!
Now this big telly, it cost me £479. There are probably much better sets out there, but this model has everything that a family needs: Good Picture, great sound, easy remote and simple instructions. After all it is a Telly how complicated can they be?
Less I forget the main thing; Its so big that eating popcorn whilst watching it is not embarrassing, mind you hiring the Popcorn Lady last Saturday night was a tad expensive!
