So I start, with the good points.
I think a very nice designed TV and a large screen, with Wide screen modes; AUTO mode detects various screen formats that are transmitted e.g. (4:3) (16:9). It also has a great setting were if the picture is in a very narrow format you can expand the picture so you can see it a lot bigger. Slim line speakers, which nicely blend in with the TV, nicely designed, stand with two shelves and smoked glass doors.
There are no buttons showing on the front of the TV apart from the on and off button. The controls are very easy to use and a nice layout. To get used to the TV functions took me 2 hours to learn and I was impressed how easy it was.
Now sorry to say the bad points
I have owned my TV for 2 and half years.
I think Hitachi let them self’s down with a lack of internal part planning. When you spend £1000 on a TV you would expect to buy a TV that contained Hitachi parts, if that TV was Hitachi that is. But when the picture tube was made by L&G Why? Plus other parts that I cannot even say. The sound 3DS surround not impressed I still prefer my old TV’s sound with rear speakers better listening, I don’t know if I am allowed to say the name it was only a 25' surround that why I upgraded to wide screen no what I mean Tosh***.
I have had are the TV switches to standby on its own about 30 times a day. It happened occasionally when I first bought it an Engineer came to look at it did a few thing’s and it never did it again
until 30th May 2002, then it did it again but it was worse up to 30 times a day I have had Three Engineers to look at it but they cannot find why it does it. The sound when loud goes off and a high pitch static noise I emailed Hitachi but they have never replied. That says it all, I like the TV but with all this high Tec components that can go wrong and Engineers cannot fix, it`s a lot of money to spend if the TV lasts only Two or three years. Sorry Hitachi but you have lost my trust my next wide screen wont be yours my advice to other people who want to spend £1000 + on a TV ask a few people what make of brand they trust and take biggest vote. I hope my opinion has been helpful

Fault rectified after sending my TV to Leeds to be looked at the fault was down to poor
work-manship, the soldering on the motherboard dry sockets I was told and it is a common problem with these sets they told me they have repaired hunderds of them and they told me they were badly desined and they also had to reprogram the chips.
I have now sold the Hatachi and will never buy another
