This TV is a 14" unit with FastextTeletext, a SCART socket and phono in/headphone out on the front panel. The TV is packaged well, as expected. Once you get it out of the box you find the loop antenna (don't know why they still ship with these, they're practically useless), the TV itself (duh), a manual, the remote (with batteries) and the guarantee cards. Following the manual, it's simplicity itself to set the TV up. Simply plug it in, switch it on and it begins its auto-setup routine. First it tunes in to all available channels, then it sorts them into some resemblance of order, which is a nice time-saver. From then on in, it's plain sailing. The picture can be tuned for contrast, brightness, sharpness and colour through the simple-to-use OSD, and the degree of CATS (contrast auto-tracking system) can be altered. This basically adjusts the contrast to compensate for ambient light in the room, which it detects through a sensor in the cabinet, behind the window for the remote receiver. Turn CATS all the way up, then marvel as the picture changes when you're in a bright room and you put your hand over the window! Overall, the TV is very easy to use and seems pretty bomb-proof. I'm impressed!
I bought this TV 3 years ago for the bedroom as my old Bush one just didn't cut the mustard anymore. Having had problems with the picture quality and channel name display on my first choice ( a Sony) I chose Panasonic as my second preference brand-wise. I wasnt disappointed. Number 1, the screen, although not FST is of the highest quality was superior. Number 2, it has a wider choice of picture adjustment options including sharpness. Number 3 it has a really useful CATS (Contrast Auto Tracking System) which dims the screen in the dark, and makes it brighter in light environments. It is very well made. It has an excellent, well-designed remote control. We also have a Panasonic 25" TV as a main TV which we have owned for 17 years. It still has perfect picture and sound quality!!
