Advantages: good picture, good sound
Disadvantages: intermittent, annoying faults
The problem I have with this TV is an intermittent "black screen" (lasting a second or 2)preceded by a loud click. This happened once on the day it was delivered. Contacted retailer (QED-UK) who said if it happens again, they would replace it. It didn't happen again..... for 5 months. Then it happened a lot, finally after a particularly loud crack, the colour became extremely "washed out". Retailer then said it would have to be repaired by "Endeva" (some sort of agent for Philips, I think.) Two weeks after repair, fault returned. Also, the sound now intermittently mutes, I have to switch it off/on to get sound back (same fault as 32 PW 6315? see review : http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/electronics/televisions/ph ilips_32_pw_6315/_review/391330) Philips insist that it is upto retailer to sort this and refuse to replace set. Retailer says it will not replace set unless Philips agrees to provide replacement (Catch 22?). Apparently Philips will replace set if same fault occurs 3 times (after 3 repairs). Result :unhappy Philips consumer, 977 pounds lighter. Philips do not seem too bothered. Interested to know if anyone else has had similar problems (with any Philips TV).

- 13/12/03 As a TV engineer for a rental company (the name of which I think I'm legally bound not to mention in this situation) I can wholeheartedly advice everybody reading this to steer clear of Phillips televisions because pretty much every current model has long term reliability issues.
To Britadaly who's posted a comment on here, the model of your telly is either a 20pw6005 or a 28pw6305 (with the curved screen) or a similar variant, if it's flat it's probably a 28p6515 or a similar variant. All of them are based on the a10 chassis that is currently the bane of my life.
Basically it's the "brain" of the TV set that handles pretty much everything hence the myriad of different faults that are attributed to it. This is a problem that Phillips are well aware of (well they should be after all of the letters of complaint that my firm has forwarded to them from angry customers like yourself) and seem very unwilling to combat.
My advice is again, steer well clear. Hopefully if this becomes common knowledge and Phillips start losing enough buisness then they'll finally start doing something about it. |

- 11/07/03 My Philips 28" Widescreen is now having similar and worse problems! Not sure what the model number is... but its only less than 2 years old. My satallite is connected through ext 1. The tv now turns itself off every time you turn to this channel! Switched it to ext 2 and it was fine for a few weeks, but now the picture is sometimes flickery, the sound is distorted like there's bad reception, and yesterday the sound went altogether! not a squeek.... well, actually, a kind of very high pitched noise, but thats kinda been there since the start. Anyhoo, i'm going out buying a new tv tomorrow.... nuf said. |

- 18/06/03 Unfortunate experience but not a very useful review of the product. I guess if you bought from a reputable retailer there should be no quibble. |
