Big, Heavy & Loud Like My Ex-Girlfriend (Sony KV-32FQ70)

This is a very large, very heavy television, but it provides superb picture and sound. This television is similar to my ex-girlfriend who was also very large, very heavy, had excellent sound, but she did not make for a very good picture. But that is another story for another time.

How big is it? Well, when I had it delivered to my house, I was surprised to find that it did not fit in through my door while it was still in the box. So, I had to take it out of the box, take my door off of its hinges and twist and twirl to get the television into my home. Unfortunately, after I became so preoccupied with setting up my new television that I forgot to put the door back on for several hours. During this time a stray dog came into my home and urinated on my carpet. If you need to take off your door, you should always remember to put it back on.

How heavy is it? It took myself and two of my closest and strongest and hairiest friends to lift and move the television into the house. It weighs about 80 kilos so unless you have super human strength, you cannot move it on your own. And you need to know where to place ahead of time for your friends will become upset with you if you keep changing your mind and they have to keep moving it around. I had my friends move it only six different times and they became very annoyed with me.

Picture quality is remarkably crisp and clean. I did not need to do much to calibrate the picture except turning down the brightness level slightly. The dual tuner allows for you to watch two different pictures simultaneously. Unfortunately, you can only have sound for one picture at a time, so you need to choose which programme you can afford to simply watch (football) and which one you need the sound (EE).

The screen is also very smooth and easy to clean. This is very important for me for I like to throw tomatoes at the screen during the football. If I do not like a play or I do not like the offici
al’s call, I have a bucket of tomatoes next to me and I pick up one and toss at the television screen. On some sets, the tomatoes stick and block the picture. However, on this set, the tomatoes splatter and then smoothly slide down and off the screen and into the basin I have set up underneath the television. This allows me to continue to watch the football without having to get up to wipe off the set between tomato tossings. This is a very important feature for me.

For connections there are many. There are three SCART sockets on the rear of the television. And there are S-video and normal video inputs in the front of the television. This should provide ample connectivity for all of your wondrous digital devices. I set up my DVD and VCR to this with very little trouble.

The remote control has pre-set picture modes (Live, Movie, Game) and also lets you set up your own picture mode based upon your preferred settings. It also lets you choose Wide, Zoom, 14:9 and 4:3 for your viewing aspect ratio. The remote also allows you to set the sleep timer, parental lock certain channels, change your Teletex settings and perform auto tuning. It also has buttons that allow you to change the channel by pressing up or down and change the volume by pressing up or down and a power button to turn on or turn off the television.

Overall, it is a very intuitive and easy to use remote. I have never had any problems using it with either my hands or my feet. I know most people like to use their hands, but I find that by placing the remote on the floor and using my feet and toes to operate it, I can then use both hands to eat and drink and rub my belly or scratch myself in areas that require scratching. If you need to use your hands to operate the remote, then you really limit yourself and must use the same hand for eating, drinking and scratching. This is not good in my opinion for it can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Also, I have found
that if I use the only one hand, then sometimes when I scratch myself after eating peanut butter and jam, I get some of the peanut butter and jam on my privates. This is not good for it dirties the under clothing and gets your parts all stuck together. This a most uncomfortable situation.

The sound is excellent for this television. Again, it provides many choices for settings. You can have Vocal, Rock, Pop, Jazz or Flat or manually change the settings to your own personal style. The volume becomes loud very quickly as I found when I put in my DVD of Terminator. If you move the volume bar all the way to the top, your eardrums begin to vibrate and your neighbors will begin to complain. I think that it is best to keep it below the halfway point. That seems to be as high as I can go without my neighbors coming over to my home and yelling profanities to me about how I am a loud nuisance, how my chickens smell and how I should not go out to pick up my milk and paper in the morning in just my underpants because they do not like to see my naked hairy body out in the open. Some people can be very closed minded and mean.

The only negative to the sound is that the bass is not that terribly deep and rich. On Terminator, Arnold did not sound so very menacing, but more Telly Tubby-like even though I know he is not a Telly Tubby.

This television I purchased for only £600 from my friend Rahbib and I think it was a very good price. Rahbib supplies me with all of my electronics items for he can get very good deals on them from his suppliers. I would certainly purchase this television again.
