“ Brand: Wilton / Product Type: Knife Block Set „
Moving to your own place often means that when you get to your new home you have nothing. This was the case when my partner and I moved to our flat. Having both previously lived with our parents neither of us had anything to bring with us domestic wise. We decided a trip to IKEA was in order to try and pick up a few bargains, moving into your own place is expensive! Knives are essential in the kitchen even if you aren't particularly a keen cook.
Coming to the end of the shopping spree and rapidly running out of money we purchased a block with four knives at £2.59 I thought they would do for a short while till we could get a more expensive set.
The block of four knives stand securely in a solid light pine block. The knives stand in the block by four slots at the top of the block making the knives secure. The block is coated in a clear lacquer which enables the block to be wiped down with a damp cloth. To enable it to stand safely on the worktop the block comes with a small stainless steel stand that is connected to the block. The block is relatively small, lean and modern looking. The Length of the block is: 11cm, Width: 10cm, Height: 33cm a great size for a small kitchen with limited storage. The appearance of the block is simple but looks clean and is most importantly safe.
The four knives all have a black plastic handles, which are relatively strong and sturdy. The blades are made out of stainless steel with a nice shiny look to them, making them look more appealing. The block contains four knives: a bread knife, utility knife and two cook's knives. The bread knife is 18cm (total length 33cm with handle), utility knife 10cm (total length 24cm), cook's knife 13cm (total length 28cm) and another cook's knife 19cm (total length 34cm). On the blade of the knife at the top near the handle, IKEA made in China from stainless steel, is written in black writing.
At a price of £2.59 you can't expect much packaging. The block comes wrapped in plastic with each individual knife wrapped in plastic placed in its slot.
At a price of £2.59 you get exactly what you pay for. The appearance of the block is simple but modern looking and they look really nice. However, unless you just want a block of knives that looks good on your worktop I would not recommend this block of knives. The knives are very blunt and you struggle to cut anything hard without having a problem. Also the blade of the knife is very wide, especially on the small knife, so you are unable to do any peeling with the knives.
Sadly this wasn't the bargain that we were hoping for and we will purchase a more expensive block of knives in the future. I wouldn't recommend these knives unless you just want a block of knives to look at.
Everyone needs a good set of knives in their home I always think. They were thing I didn't consider getting as I was so busy trying to buy such a lot of new stuff for my new home and I was in a position where I was in Ikea near the stores closing time and needed knives and fast cos I had people coming for a meal that night and realised that sure I was cooking and had got all the ingredients in , but I had nothing any good to cut anything up with!
At £2.59 I didn't think these would be any good but with limited funds and time running out I grab a block!
4 large looking black handled knives sit securely in a solid but light pine block that has a clear lacquer on it (so its wipe clean) and it has a small pull out silver section to one side of it so it rests on the worktop securely. The block size is Length: 11 cm, Width: 10 cm, Height: 33 cm and that comes ready made and ready to use in a clear plastic wrapper which simply tells you what it is and contact details for Ikea are clearly stated and the knives come individually wrapped in the plastic and wrapped securely in cardboard.
The knives you get are a bread knife 18 cm (tot. length 33 cm), utility knife 10 cm (tot. length 24 cm), cook's knife 13 cm (tot. length 28 cm) and cook's knife 19 cm (tot. length 34 cm) and when in the block all look the same size though they are all slightly different widths and lengths of course. All have written on them in black writing that they are from Ikea and that they are made in China and are made from stainless steel.
The block and knives look very nice, the blades look shiny and they're all of good size but the big question is are they actually any good bearing in mind I paid a mere £2.59 for the lot?
In short no they are rubbish. The plastic handles are sturdy enough to be fair to them, they look really nice however to cut and peel with them is quite simply a nightmare. They just are really, really blunt! For me these are all fur coat and no knickers! They work a little but not enough and to achieve anything I have to really work my butt off which gives bad wrist ache!
I seriously got what I expected from these knives sadly and thats something that looks nice sat in my kitchen but are a complete and utter waste of time!
Only available from Ikea stores.
