“ Brand: Tu / Type: Cutlery Set „
I try not to spend too long in the home section aisles of any supermarket, because guaranteed I will see 101 things that I like and want to own. Supermarkets over the last few years have really come into their own in regards to selling non food items, with a huge selection to chose from and a lot of the time competitively priced. I bought this set, in red, while discounted for £8.00.
Why did I buy these?
I needed a new set to be honest. The last set I had, which were cheap ( I paid roughly £4-5.00 ) from Poundstretcher and having them for well less than a year, it was obvious the quality simply wasn't there. They became loose when eating and cutting food with them, bits started coming away. This wasn't ideal for anyone to use in my household, but especially the kids.
I had been puting off buying another set because I didn't want to buy something too cheaply and regret it and suffer the same bad quality, but at the same time didn't want to spend a fortune on a set as I just couldn't afford it. So a comfortable medium was needed.
What do you get?
This is a 16 piece cutlery set which includes 4 knives, 4 forks, 4 spoons and 4 teaspoons. All normal, full standard size. Made from stainless steel, and the handles are soft grip.
How are they packaged?
They come in a light and dark grey cardboard box. The ' TU ' logo is in the top left hand corner with what the product is-16 piece cutlery set soft grip.
On both the side and back it mentions how many pieces you get. On the back theres care and use instructions and company contact details.
How do they look?
Each piece of cutlery have the same look to them. All of the cutlery itself are made from stainless steel. The handle, two thirds of it, are coloured ( in this case a beautiful pillar box red ) and have a slight rubberised feel to it. Right at the bottom, which I think is a nice touch, is around an inch of stainless steel which makes them look quite eye catching and slightly different.
How do they perform?
For me, they look stylish and easy on the eye. They are very easy to hold and comfortable. The soft grip element to the handle definitely helps. They are slightly bigger in width compared to my previous set which means for me alittle easier to hold because they have more substance, and generally they feel much more stronger and slightly weightier ( although they are not heavy ).
They grip into food well, and the knives are sharp and efficient.
Would I buy these again? Yes I would. I was torn between the black and the red at the time of purchase, but went for the red as my previous set were black and I thought the red gave a pop of colour. The look is stylish but simple at the same time. Sturdy and well made-I think they are a great buy at an affordable price.
We usually shop at Tesco but as a new Sainsbury's store opened in the area we went to check it out and that is where purchased this set from. In the set you receive 4 tea spoon, 4 desert spoons, 4 forks and 4 knifes so it is a complete cutlery set for a family of four but we purchased 2 sets as like most we have visitors for tea often and 1 set is not enough for all of us. They retail at £12 although we picked these up in the sale and they were half price at £6 for the set which we thought was a much better price especially as we purchased 2 sets.
They are a good size and they have a soft black grip on the handle which means you do not need to worry about them slipping while using them and they sit very comfortable in your hand. They are fit for use you can easily pick up food with the forks and although the knifes are not overly sharp they are serrated so it is easy for you to cut up your food. They are light to use which is great as it means my children can also use them easily I did wonder if this would affect their durability as we had the Argos set before and when my husband pressed down to hard on them they would bend out of shape but although they are light weight they have still proven to be very durable.
They look nice in the kitchen they do not cost a lot but the stainless steel and black match with everything else in my kitchen and they look very well made which is great although they are not on show a lot it is still nice to have something that looks nice while eating your food especially when you have guests over. They have lasted well be brought these when we first moved to Scotland a few years back and they are still going strong so they are very durable and we have had no problems at all with them. I was a little worried at first that the handle casing may come away but it has lasted well with no marks at all on them and after the daily use they receive I think this is fantastic.
The tea spoons although the standard size spoon I found the handles are longer than average tea spoon which means I can actually make a mug of tea without having to be careful not to catch my fingers while stirring so that is a great advantage for me.The cutlery is very easily to clean a little fairy liquid and some hot water and it comes up shining as good as new. These are not dishwasher safe although this is not a problem for me as I am not lucky enough to own one it may be something to consider for someone who does.
Overall these are fantastic they are not bank breaking but work well and last well. They are a good size and the soft grip handle make them comfortable to hold. We have owned Argos and Tesco value range cutlery in the past and these are the best by far not only better made but a lot more pleasing on the eyes.
