Halfords Girls Bike Streamers
by chrisandmark When we bought Hollie her bike last year it was pink (of course, this is Hollie we're talking about) but quite basic looking, I realised it needed prettying up straightaway so after dropping her at school one day I took a trip to Halfords to see what I could get. I was thinking new handlebar grips and maybe a tinkly little bell, but ... when I spotted these streamers I decided to get these instead (mainly because I didn't know whether handlebar grips came in a one-size-fits-all design or if I should have actually measured the bike before trying to buy things for it!). The streamers are a very simple idea and without even describing them I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about, regardless of the worse than useless photo Dooyoo have decided to use. They are made up of lots of slim plastic/foil strips which have been attached to a circular piece of plastic which has a rigid 'post' sticking out of it, the post simply needs pushing through the rubber of the handlebar grip (sometimes there is a pre-made hole, but on Hollie's bike Mark had to make a hole to attach the streamers). It's an excellent fit, despite lots of riding time the streamers have never fallen out or became wobbly and doing a quick comparison between several different brands of bike streamers I can say the plastic post looks fairly universal on all of them so if your handlebar grips already have a hole then these should fit in it! The streamers themselves are in varying shades of pink, purple and blue with all three colours looking fantastic, especially on sunny days when the light reflects off them as Hollie is pedaling along. Touching them reminds me of the tape you'd find in cassettes (ask your parents, kids!) although the material is a little heavier as the strips don't waft in the wind as well as cassette tape used to when we (umm) threw it into the branches of trees. When Hollie is cycling however the breeze does cause the strips of plastic to flow in the direction of the wind and this creates a lovely girly effect, the only problem being that she often gets so wrapped up in watching the streamers that she forgets to watch the pavement in front of her and they've caused her to tumble off her bike at least three times that I know of! When the streamers were brand new I noticed a few came out as Hollie was cycling, I'm assuming these were loose in the first place though as since then they all seem to have stayed put and there definitely doesn't look like there are any bald patches at all. Hollie is really happy with them and this very simple idea has transformed the appearance of her bike, I think the £6 price tag is a little excessive for such a basic product - but then anything related to cycling (and especially kids bikes) is always surprisingly high priced I've found. Halfords Bike Frame Bag
by karlsm93 My husband is quite the keen cyclist and for a recent birthday he wanted some more cycling stuff. One of the things that he requested was a bag that attached to this bike where he could store his bike tools and puncture repair kit, should the worst happen and he get a puncture when out and about, with no one to rescue him. ... He had actually noticed a little bag on te Halfords website and so after he had shown me what he wanted I ordered it for him. However, due to his saddle it wasn't possible to attach this bag, so we both went into our local Halfords to try and find an alternative. The only bag that Halfords stocked that was suitable for his type of saddle was this Halfords Frame Bag, which currently costs £12.99 although when we purchased it (as an exchange for the other bag) it was only £9.99. This Frame Bag is called a frame bag beside rather than attaching it to the saddle, it attaches to the frame of your bike. The bike, as can be seen from the picture above is traingular in shape, and sits with its right angle in the corner of the frame. The bag is attached to the bag using a 'universal hook and loop fitting system' which is extremely easy to use. My husband had it on in a flash, and it fits his frame perfectly. I was slightly concerned when we first bought the item, that it would get in his way but it certainly doesn't. Halfords state that this 'universal hook and loop fitting system' will allow this product to fit most bikes. I cannot really comment as I only have experience of my husband's. Around the edge of the bag is a reflective strip which is a useful addition for added visibility, although I certainly wouldn't want to be relying on this little strip alone, but in conjunction with other reflective clothing and lights, it is an added bonus. According to Halfords, this bag has up to 10 litre capacity. There are several little compartments within the bag, including one on the outside as well as inside. My husband finds that he had plenty of room to place his puncture repair kit alongside any other small tools that he may require should something happen. Although I would assume that this bag is primarily designed for the likes of holding cycling and repair tools, it is an ideal size for those wanting to carry keys or wallet or even their phone in a secure, safe was whilst cycling. My husband now leaves his bag permanently on his bike, unless he has parked it somewhere on the street and he would then remove it, but again there is no hassle with doing so. All in all, for the price we paid of £9.99, but even if you paid the £12.99 this is an ideal accessory for a cyclist wishing to have some form of storage for tools or even their everyday essentials such as keys or wallet. For those who have a more modern saddle, then there are plenty of bags on the market that can be fitted to the saddle, but if you have an older style saddle where it isn't as easy to fit such bags, then this is an ideal solution to the problem. It keeps the essentials out of your way whilst cycling and is easy to attach and remove. My husband loves it. Read the complete review |

Halfords Single Trailer Buggy
by PinkHaze I bought this for my two year old son after debating the safety of children being transported via bicycle and decided for my needs that a trailer would be the safest option. The trailer itself is reasonably light and isn't vastly noticable weight wise when towing it. Though you do notice a difference when adding a child and a hill to the ... equation! But in honesty after two weeks i didnt notice it anymore as i had got used to the extra weight. The price was one of the cheapest at £89 i have seen for a trailor and have seen this exact one in a different colour and branded for £139. The trailer folds reasonabily flatish to pack into a car and is quick to assemble using a system of pins and hooks that stay connected to the frame. I used mine for trailing around country parks and the product was or so it seemed ideal for this. It comes with a flap that can be velcrowed over the child if it rains or split into two if you just wanted to use the bug screen and you can also roll both screens up. The biggest problem with the trailer it that after 6 weeks when rountinly checking it over i noticed in more than a few places the seams were ripping apart!! Very disappointed as i was very happy with it at the start! The trailor had a handy little boot in the back (ideal for a loaf of bread for the ducks, some snacks and drinks and a football!) One thing that i did like about this trailor is the ease of use. Its simple and easy to assemble and attach to the bike. Ive dropped my bike three times, all when i was off it with the trailer attached and while the bike crashed to the floor the trailer stayed upright and barely flinched! Ive had no end of comments from passers by ranging from ''What a brilliant idea'' to ''How eco.'' A brilliant way to transport children quickly and an even better way to enjoy a slow sunday bike ride, just not with this product, the features were good but i should of realised the cheap price paid for the cheap materials!! Not happy! I have now invested in a better more expensive, sturdier model!! Read the complete review |
