Argos Bicycle Cover
Advantages: Keeps your bike dry
Disadvantages: None at all
During the summer my fiancé and myself acquired 2 bikes from my mum and dad, with the idea that Mark would bike to work, he only works a few minutes from our house so biking would actually be quicker then driving, it also means that he can nip home for some lunch if he wants. Whilst he only really bikes when the weather is nice there have been the odd occasions where he has left the house in the morning and the weather has been fine but by the time be comes home for lunch or comes home in the evening, it could be pouring with rain. This is not too much of a problem when he comes home for the day but at lunch time he does not really have much time so tends to leave his bike in the front garden rather than the garage, meaning that if it starts to rain the seat of his bike gets very wet, and it is not a good look going back to work with wet trousers. He decided he would like something that he can quickly cover his bike over with if it looks like it might rain so we had a look around for something that was not going to cost a fortune but would do the job and came across Argos's PVC water resistant cover, perfect for what we needed.
The PVC Water Resistant Cover came in a small plastic packet, folded up with a piece if card inside depicting how the cover should look and a small bit of information about it, the packing was really very basic, not that was a problem, I mean there is only so much you can say about a PVC cover. The cover itself (as the name gives away) is made from a PVC material, it is transparent blue in colour. When we took it out of the packaging the cover was quite creased where it had been folded up inside the small packet, however these soon dropped out, the design of the cover was very simple, it was consisted of a large PVC sheet with elastic at the front and back of the cover along with Velcro straps. The Velcro straps and elastic pulled the cover tight around the tires of you bike for a close fit, very useful in windy weather.
The whole cover measures 98cm in height, 185cm in width and 74cm in depth, making the PVC cover quite large, it is designed to fit bicycles, most scooters and motorbikes up to 500cc in size. We have only used our cover for a bicycle which it fits perfectly so I cannot say how good it would be at keeping anything larger covered and dry.
So far the cover has come in handy, my fiancé can quickly and easily cover his bike up in order to keep it dry without having to fiddle around putting it in the garage. The cover simply pulls over the entire bike, the elastic at the front and back of the cover help to keep it in place, and the Velcro straps secure it that little bit more, as I have said this is very useful in windy weather as you do not need to worry about the cover blowing away, or even just lifting in the wind allowing rain under it. The cover is not awkward to fit over the bike, even if you are on your own, Mark always covers his bike alone and has no problems at all, there is nothing fiddly about it, sometimes in very windy weather it can be a little difficult especially if the wind catches inside it but generally covering up the bike with this cover is a very simple task.
The PVC cover has been used on several occasions now and has proved to be a real success. It is hardwearing and durable, it is showing no signs of wear and tare and it has not ripped once, the PVC that it is made from really is strong and made to last well. The cover has also lived up to its promise of being water resistant, you can happily leave you bike out in the rain under this cover and it will stay totally dry and ready to ride. My fiancé finds this particularly helpful because without it should his bike get left out in the rain it means he has either got to mess around drying it before he can ride it or he has got to risk it and hope his trousers do not get too wet from the seat. Since buying the cover he can leave his bike in the garden at lunch under the PVC cover and knows that it will stay dry for when he is ready to return to work. So all in all it has been a success.
We bought our PVC cover from Argos and it only cost £5.99, personally I thought this was an excellent price especially as it is hardwearing and long lasting, for us it was well worth the money.
Overall I would recommend the Argos PVC cover purely because although it is a very simple and basic product it does what it says, it keeps you bike dry, is long lasting, hardwearing and an excellent price.
Summary: Cheap but effective
