Argos Bicycle Cover
Advantages: Covers bike easily. Keeps bike dry. Adjustable.
Disadvantages: Not sure there is much need.
The Argos Bicycle Cover was bought for me by my partner after I was complaining I ended up with a wet bum when I was cycling to work. It was kind of one of those joke presents that actually, at the end of the day, I thought may actually come in handy. The Argos Bicycle Cover was part of the value range and it cost £9.99 direct from the Argos website (www.argos.co.uk). I actually thought this was fairly expensive for something that was essentially a large plastic bag, but £9.99 isn't going to break anyone's bank and so it's an okay price and affordable by most I would imagine.
The cover is a large PVC bag that stretches over the top of the bag and then can be pulled down over the both sides of the bicycle in order to protect it from the elements. The PVC is transparent and so it is easy to identify the correct bike should you have more than one bike with a cover on it. The PVC is fairly thick and so it does not easily tear and also feels very robust and that it would last for a significant period of time without needing to be replaced. There are two gathered elasticated bits with velcro fasteners which are designed to grip at the front wheel and the back wheel and to keep the cover in place. The fasteners do stop the cover from being blown off if it is particularly windy - and so once in place, the cover stays in place. At the same time, it is easy to remove the cover and so it doesn't slow you down in any way having it in place.
While the cover does work to keep the bike dry underneath the plastic, I'm not completely sure whether it is something that is really worth having. At the end of the day, it only particularly matters to me that the seat of the bike is dry and a wet seat can be easily rectified with a quick wipe with the towel. In addition to this, in hot weather, the bag can encourage condensation under the plastic and so it also doesn't completely prevent rust. To be honest, it's something which I only tend to use if I'm not going to be using my bike for several days.
Summary: It's okay - but probably not needed.
