Advantages: two different settings, bright front light, easy to set up
Disadvantages: maybe not suitable for country?
When I went to university for the first time I didn't have a car. Whilst I was only living 10minutes off campus I needed some way to get around not only to and from university but also to and from town so I decided to take my bike. Obviously since term started in September it made sense to take lights with me for cycling in dark evenings.
~*~ Ease of Set Up ~*~
In the box you get the front and rear light, obviously white for the front and red for the rear. I was slightly surprised by the lack of screws or apparent places for the screws when I first opened them but soon realized that this was because they didn't need screwing on, they simply click on to the frame below the handlebars and below the seat.
They fix on firmly and are not loose as I might have expected with just a clip as a fastener. However they are not too tight to make it difficult to either clip on or off either. I never leave the lights on my bike and so they have been taken off and reattached plenty of times over the years I have had them but they still fasten just as tightly as when they were new and so they have more then passed the test of time!
~*~ Appearance ~*~
These lights have a fairly thin plastic domed cover. Although the cover is thin don't be put off by this, despite being put through several years of use they have not cracked or broken. Having said that they have scratched in several places and I haven't put them through too much so if you are looking for a light that won't receive any damage then these probably aren't the ones for you.
~*~ Do They Work? ~*~
These lights have two settings, on and flashing. Both work with no problems. The lights themselves are LED's, three in the front and three in the back. The front lights are very bright, I have not tried them in the country but just around town they are more then bright enough to see the road ahead. I suspect this would be the same in country but would worry about cars seeing me around the corner.
I feel the red plastic surrounding the back light might be a little too dark though as this doesn't appear to be as bright as the front lights. Although they are very visible close up I worry about being seen by a car coming from a distance, however this can be solved by setting them to flashing in order to attract the attention of drivers.
~*~ Would I Recommend Them? ~*~
When I bought these lights I was looking for a set that would get me around town in the dark and for that use, these are the perfect lights. I paid almost £12 but I believe you can get them for £8 now and as lights used for commuting then I would recommend them, but if you're looking for something to go into the country with then I would go for a slightly better set.
Summary: good lights if used for commuting and around town
