Cateye TL-LD610 5 LED
Advantages: Bright, versitile, functional and does not break the bank.
Disadvantages: Staying safe has no disadvantages!
The Cateye 610 rear bicycle light is one of the best, brightest and versatile lights I've seen. The light takes two AAA batteries, which last a very long time even for a cycling enthusiast. The clasp is a cable tie type which does have some removable protector for the inside of the tie which prevents scratching and damage to the seat post. The light is very versatile in that you can switch it to be horizontal or vertical depending on which way suits your bike set up best. Horizontal is suitable for most bikes if the seat post is used to fix the lights.
On to the light itself, the light has 5 led lights and there are 4 programmes that the lights can be displayed on. These are:
5 LEDs always on, a standard light setting.
5 LEDs all flashing at the same time
LED lights flashing simultaneously (a Mexican wave is the best and only way I can describe this method of flashing) which sweeps left and then back to the right
A seemingly more random pattern of flashing, it isn't completely random but I'm struggling to describe it!
The four methods of flashing might be considered overkill considering the only two I ever use are method one and two. I would be interested in seeing some results as to if the third and fourth method draw more attention to the bike due to not being a uniform pattern.
The on and off button located on the top middle of the light (when lying horizontally) also control the 4 flashing methods. The button must be held longer to turn on and off and just a light press changes the flashing type. This is a simple way to control the light and prevents accidently turning the light off as a long press is needed.
I have been using this light for just over a year now and have noticed no dimming of the LED lights, they are very very bright and at around £23 a very well priced light for riding at night. You can pick up lights for a few quid nowadays but the quality of them is unbelievable poor, it is 100% worth spending the £20 extra and picking up a light that is decent and will last. Many cheap lights fall off or cause battery leaking where as the cateye has neither of these issues.
Would recommend to any cyclist, you can purchase the 610 model in bundle deals with cateye front lights (one of which I have and will review later) and this is well worth it as there is a fair saving to be had and cateye make a superb light both front and rear. This light gets 5 LED style stars from me!
Summary: Well worth a purchase and would recommend the cateye front/rear bundles including this rear light.
