Halfords Bike Frame Bag
Advantages: Ideal for those with older saddles, doesn't get in the way
My husband is quite the keen cyclist and for a recent birthday he wanted some more cycling stuff. One of the things that he requested was a bag that attached to this bike where he could store his bike tools and puncture repair kit, should the worst happen and he get a puncture when out and about, with no one to rescue him.
He had actually noticed a little bag on te Halfords website and so after he had shown me what he wanted I ordered it for him. However, due to his saddle it wasn't possible to attach this bag, so we both went into our local Halfords to try and find an alternative. The only bag that Halfords stocked that was suitable for his type of saddle was this Halfords Frame Bag, which currently costs £12.99 although when we purchased it (as an exchange for the other bag) it was only £9.99.
This Frame Bag is called a frame bag beside rather than attaching it to the saddle, it attaches to the frame of your bike. The bike, as can be seen from the picture above is traingular in shape, and sits with its right angle in the corner of the frame. The bag is attached to the bag using a 'universal hook and loop fitting system' which is extremely easy to use. My husband had it on in a flash, and it fits his frame perfectly. I was slightly concerned when we first bought the item, that it would get in his way but it certainly doesn't. Halfords state that this 'universal hook and loop fitting system' will allow this product to fit most bikes. I cannot really comment as I only have experience of my husband's.
Around the edge of the bag is a reflective strip which is a useful addition for added visibility, although I certainly wouldn't want to be relying on this little strip alone, but in conjunction with other reflective clothing and lights, it is an added bonus.
According to Halfords, this bag has up to 10 litre capacity. There are several little compartments within the bag, including one on the outside as well as inside. My husband finds that he had plenty of room to place his puncture repair kit alongside any other small tools that he may require should something happen. Although I would assume that this bag is primarily designed for the likes of holding cycling and repair tools, it is an ideal size for those wanting to carry keys or wallet or even their phone in a secure, safe was whilst cycling. My husband now leaves his bag permanently on his bike, unless he has parked it somewhere on the street and he would then remove it, but again there is no hassle with doing so.
All in all, for the price we paid of £9.99, but even if you paid the £12.99 this is an ideal accessory for a cyclist wishing to have some form of storage for tools or even their everyday essentials such as keys or wallet. For those who have a more modern saddle, then there are plenty of bags on the market that can be fitted to the saddle, but if you have an older style saddle where it isn't as easy to fit such bags, then this is an ideal solution to the problem. It keeps the essentials out of your way whilst cycling and is easy to attach and remove. My husband loves it.
Summary: A great little bag for all the essentials when cycling
