**What's a Backpack Cover?**
Backpack covers are primarily used by outdoor sports enthusiasts to provide protection for their backpack from rain and mud (ideal for those who cycle or jog to work especially, as you can remove the cover, and have a nice clean non mud spattered bag when you get there, from the kick back of wheels and / or trainers).
The great thing about the Respro Hump Hi-Viz Waterproof Backpack Cover is that it's not only providing protection for your backpack, it's also acting as a safety feature too as it's neon colouring and distinctive stripes help distinguish you in poor weather conditions and in the dusk and dark.
**Price and Availability**
The Respro Hump Hi-Viz Waterproof Backpack Cover is available online and in some specialist sports and cycling shops, and is priced according to size (it is available in an XL and an 'army backpack' size, too). I have the medium size and the price online was £16 which seems about average, as I've seen it cost between £15 and £20 online with a postage and packing charge.
The Respro Hump Hi-Viz Waterproof Backpack Cover is very easy to use and the best way to describe it is like an ironing board cover or a fitted sheet - it's a fairly thin but waterproof cover which sits like a shower cap over the body of your backpack.
As I've said, the Respro Hump Hi-Viz Waterproof Backpack Cover is distinctly designed in a neon yellow colour, with 'go faster' stripes down each side which makes it extremely visible and adds that safety element. After I have cycled to work I simply remove the mud-spattered backpack cover leaving me with a nice, clean black backpack for the office, and place the backpack cover in the supplied toggle drawstring bag for it's next use.
The backpack cover is washable and line / radiator dryable (I wouldn't recommend putting it in a tumble dryer) and suffers no colour bleed or loss, it stays a nice vibrant neon yellow.
Well for me there are a few, not enough to stop me using it but just a consideration for fairness of the review :
- The Respro Hump Hi-Viz Waterproof Backpack Cover only covers the body of your backpack so if you get caught in a shower and have non waterproof, padded backpack straps (and many do), then you end up with soaking wet shoulders no matter how protected the body of your bag is. So my recommendation would be when buying this is to also make sure you have a suitably waterproof backpack in the first place - this is more for protection from mud splatters than to keep it particularly dry.
- The price is a little bit high for basically a cap you put over your backpack. I would have been happier at £10 - £12 but it is what it is and I went for it over other alternatives primarily based on the extra safety of the neon colouring as I live in a city and don't want to get knocked off my bike!
Yes, I do recommend the Respro Hump Hi-Viz Waterproof Backpack Cover because I don't think you can compromise on safety, and I do think the protection against mud in particular is excellent. It might only be for the dedicated (or don't-have-a-choice!) cyclist, runner or other sports enthusiast, but in terms of protecting your backpack against mud and water splashes it works very well and I am happy with it. I'm knocking a star off for the slightly inflated price, but if you can get this on offer then so much the better.
Four out of five from me. A good backpack cover I am unlikely to need to replace for many years to come.
