      A comfier ride by far

Recently I bought an old bike, I say old, it's from the 1970's! And in those days there was far less attention paid to comfort, let me tell you, the bike came with its original saddle (a lovely looking white one), and my inner thighs felt as though they might have been sitting on a brick.

So although I wanted to keep the bike as original as possible, I also felt the need to update it a little for practical purposes, for instance it now has a pannier rack and bags which it didn't have, and a stand, and now, a lovely padded gel saddle!

I'd visited several bike shops, initially seeking a saddle cover, but discovered that many of the covers were much bigger than the saddle I had, and the cost of them meant I could in fact buy a whole new saddle for around the same price. So I scoured the internet, and found the Velo Gel-Tech Saddle. I didn't need anything particularly fancy, just comfortable, and preferably with some suspension coils!

The saddle arrived, having cost around £6.50 plus postage, and I set to work removing the old saddle, which took me a loooong time due to it having possibly never been removed before, or not for many years anyway, the spanner kept slipping off the nuts and I was tearing my hair out, but eventually I got them loose, it came off, and I was away. that was the hard part, now for the very easy part, fitting the new one!

It was simple, slip the saddle over the post, tighten the two bolts on either side. Using the same bolts you can also adjust the tilt, and even slide the saddle back and forth into the preferred position, I opted for having it forward on the small rails housed under the seat, as I am a fairly short person. :-)

Every so often I would tighten it, then sit on the bike to test it out and adjust as necessary, in all the fitting took no more than ten minutes, and I was keen to take the bike out and test it's new padded bum holder.

Well, what a difference, I mean, this was not exactly a top of the range saddle, and perhaps it is because I am comparing it to a 1970's rock hard thing with no springs at all, but this was bliss!

I would be very happy to recommend the saddle to anyone looking for a budget gel saddle, it was easy to fit, and it's comfortable.

      I'll give it five!
