I found backupbuddy through Dooyoo, but nobody had written an opinion on it. I decided to take the plunge and try it out. I found a trial version, it gives you 30 days to see what its like. It took a little getting used to, I'm usually not too bad with computer programs, I don't consider myself an expert but I don't have too many problems. But I did find this hard to understand. The language used in installation seems to be written with the assumption that you know exactly how the program works and exactly what all of its features are called and what they do. It was asking me if I wanted to back something or other up becuase something might be lost if I uninstalled something or other. I never did find out what it was about...but I said yes. The software itself isn't bad once you get used to it. It saves copies of your files on your palm to your PC everytime you sync it. (If you're a palm owner, you'll know what this means). You can chose which programs you would like it to backup. Lets face it. We all have useless games and applications in out palm computers that wouldn't be a great tragic loss. Selecting only the important files saves a lot of time when you sync your palm. I have the windows version of the software, I believe there is also a small version for the palm itself, but I'm not sure how this works. It seems a bit silly to me since you would lose that as well if your palm crashed or you lost it. I guess this program is perfect if you have files that are of vital importance, but for what I use my palm for, the $29.99 registration fee really isn't worth it. There is some bonus software that comes with the trial. Time syncronisation syncs your palm clock with your PC clock...how useful. Automatic syncronisation syncs your palm automatically. And there was a 3rd one but I cant remember what it did...so it cant be that amazing. The software also allows you to save your fil
es in an internet harddrive (driveway.com) though unless you are seriously short of space on your pc, may need to access the files elsewhere or have one hell of a major virus I cant see the point in this. (Thankfully its an optional feature). The instructions are very detailed (use the PDF manual and not the HTML readme) and I think they will be most useful when I come to uninstall the software. Word of warning. They recommend using a windows add remove program, even though there is an uninstall file (though this is names 'unwise'). I think I'll take their advice. I don't think I personally will be keeping the software after my 30 days is up. Though as I said before, if you have mega important files, this is the software for you.
