Storage Nodes are SBU clients running under the Solaris Operating Environment with the added privilege of being able to back up and restore to directly attached tapes. Only control of the operations occurs over the LAN from an SBU Network or Power Edition server. This is sometimes referred to as LAN-less backups. The storage node license must be of the same Edition flavor as the backup server that controls it. Storage Nodes exploit remote storage devices while maintaining centralized control and monitoring in the SBU server. Deploying distributed Storage Nodes expands capacity, enhances performance by localizing data transfer operations, minimizes impact on the network, and provides for automatic failover of storage management operations.
