Advantages: Smells divine, Works hard to keep my lips as kissable as possible!
Disadvantages: Um... price...
Being a cosmetics junkie with my main hobby being trying new goodies, I was chuffed to bits when the postie brought me a little box last week containing a pot of Decleor Aromessence Baume Levres. Doesn't that sound so much lovelier than 'lip balm'? Anyway, lip balm is what it is. My lips have taken a bit of a bashing this winter; they've been chapped, cracked and looking in downright horrible condition for months now and my usual Botanics lip balm hasn't really had much effect on them. Even Lipscription (known as one of the best lip products) didn't help a great deal so as soon as I'd got this Decleor balm out of the box I thought I might as well try it. Coming in a tiny glass pot it doesn't look anything special. It was only because I recognised the name as being a one of the more respected cosmetic brands (along with Clarins and the like) that I realised this was probably going to be more than a run of the mill lip balm. The pot does look quite cute on the bathroom shelf in a minimalist 'posh brand' kinda way. But it's not what the pot looks like, is it girls? It's what's inside the pot. You can see the creamy yellow colour of the balm inside the pot, a quick twist of the simple screw top lid and it's revealed in all its glory. The main consideration with lip balm is how moisturised and smooth it makes your lips, with the second thing (in my opinion) being that it must taste nice but not so nice that I lick it all off within minutes - Juicy Tubes, I'm talking to you! Decleor lip balm is 100% natural and contains a variety of essential oils and resinoids, including cinnamon, lemon, vanilla and oil of hazelnut. This combination works together to lend a gorgeous mixed spice smell to the balm, the two smells I can definitely pick out are the cinnamon and a very subtle vanilla scent. It's not rocket science using the lip balm, simply apply a small amount when necessary a
nd you're done. This balm goes a long way, all you need is the thinnest smear of balm on your finger and it'll spread itself over your lips beautifully. If you use too much your lips will feel greasy for ages so you're best off to stick to a tiny bit and you can always add more if you think you need it. The balm is very easy to apply, goes on smoothly and you can feel it starting to sink into your lips as soon as you put it on. Immediately after applying my lips feel smoother and I can feel the skin getting some much needed moisture, my lips also feel plumper due to the lines and cracks being ironed out by the balm. Rubbing my lips together they do feel a bit greasy but I'm assuming this is because of all the essential oils doing their thing, it's not greasy enough to feel awful so I can live with it! The first time I used the balm I was surprised at how shiny it made my lips. It was as though I'd applied a gloss, as my lips absorbed the balm the shine disappeared but I was left with a lovely sheen to my lips needing no lipstick or gloss at all. I was talking to carly_pussycat the other day about the mums who take their kids to school with perfect (and over the top) make up, looking like they're off clubbing at 9am. You can't miss this particular breed of woman; they tend to congregate with other over-done mums, standing in the school playground with bags under their eyes because they've had to get out of bed so early to apply their make up! Wanting to avoid this look at all times I've found a tinted moisturiser and a smear of this lip balm (suppose I'd better brush my hair too!) and I look presentable for the walk to school. I've been using Decleor lip balm for two weeks now and I've really noticed a difference in both the condition and appearance of my lips. The vertical lines which have plagued me since the weather turned cold last year have more or less vanished, the skin on my lips feels smoo
th and the horrible chapped look has cleared. My lips feel a lot softer too, all the better for those back of the neck kisses Mark loves! Because of the essential oils used to create this little pot of gorgeousness the moisturising capabilities are brilliant, I can actually feel my lips absorbing this balm and if you listen very carefully you'll hear your winter dry lips thanking you as they receive the moisture they've been crying out for for months. The taste of the balm is slightly spiced but nowhere near strong enough to make me lick my lips and actually enjoy the taste (Juicy Tubes again) so it's safe until it's soaked in and started it's amazing moisturising action. It will leave a greasy smudge on your cup if you try drinking as soon as you've applied the balm but you couldn't really expect anything less considering the amount of oil in the product. The bad news is Decleor costs. You can expect to pay £16.50 for a tiny 10ml pot of balm from such places as Rackhams and larger Boots store. Excessive? I think so. However, because you only need to use such a tiny amount with each application a pot will last for ages. I apply the balm 5 - 6 times a day so over two weeks I've used the balm roughly 80 times and the pot hardly looks like it's been touched, I'll easily get another couple of months out of this one pot before I have to start thinking about buying any more. When I was using a combination of Lypsyl and Botanics lip balm I was having to replace one or the other on an fortnightly basis and they weren't helping the condition of my lips to any great extent. Of course they're cheaper to buy, the Lypsyl and Botanics costing around £3.50 for the two but what's the point in buying a cheaper product that doesn't work properly? I'd prefer to splash out on a top product that's going to last me for ages. I think I've found my essential lip balm. Thanks for reading.
