Disadvantages: May dry out normal areas

I had seen this product advertised on QVC and thought that this product could be for me. Those of you who have read my other reviews will know that I am a young male with a problem of combination skin and visible blackheads on the T-zone area. I tend to have quite oily skin on my forehead, nose and chin and so as this Aromessence was designed to help combat excess oiliness I was intrigued and willing to give it a go.

The price from qvc is around £33 for 15ml. Yes you read that right! You only get a little 15ml bottle for thirty-three of your hard earned notes. As you pick yourself up off the floor, I feel I must point out that in this size, the bottle should be lasting you a good six months, if not then you?re using too much of the product. Having said all that, even though I am very impressed with Decleor?s Essential Balm (see my review) I was unwilling to part with this great deal of money to simply try out a product even with QVCs 30day money back guarantee. As this is the age of the Internet, I logged onto eBay and had a look to see what was on offer. I subsequently bought a little 5 ml bottle for about a fiver. Now before I can say I would endorse this process, I would like to point out that these bottle being sold have it clearly written on them that they are NOT FOR RESALE! In fact if you go to most Decleor counters in stores such as Fraser?s they will give you a free sample bottle to try. Back when I bought this however, I didn?t have the confidence to approach any of the sales girls behind these counters as, lets face it; these surroundings aren?t particularly suited to a young guy. As a result the eBay option seemed ideal. Also I feel I should point out is that as the bottles usually come with no seal, there is no guarantee that the product is unused and isn?t contaminated in any way. Still think eBay is a good idea? (kinda talked myself out of it now!)

Anyway back to the product ? God, is it just me or am I waffling? But i
f you?re still reading this then thanks and congratulations you?ve made it this far.

According to the Decleor website, the product contains essential oils of Ylang Ylang (not surprisingly), Geranium, Rosemary and St. Thomas Bay. These ingredients are reported to help in the treatment of oily skin. According to Decleor the product, when applied underneath any moisturiser, will sink in to the skin straight away helping to reduce excess sebum whilst also drawing out impurities and helping to purify and balance the skin.

The product is advertised for daily use and so I presume is intended to be applied underneath your regular moisturiser both day and night. The smell of this product is great and while I wouldn?t say it was in any way overpowering, I felt that the slight floral scent was still detectable a few minutes after application and so for this reason I wouldn?t recommend it to other guys for use during the daytime.

The application of the product is easy. Simply place your finger over the bottle, invert a couple of times then, after warming quickly through the fingers, apply to the face. If like me the problem is combination skin then I would recommend that you apply the product only to the oily areas such as the T-zone but if you have oily skin then definitely use it all over.

Applying oil to skin with already overactive oil glands may seem a bit weird (if not insane) but the product does claim to sink in and calm down the oil glands so in effect reducing the amount of sebum in your skin.

So all these claims aside, does it actually work? Well I can honestly say that it does exactly what it claims to do. After a few days use, I did notice that my skin seemed less oily and shiny. It also looked slightly less congested but I suspect this would have more to do with Decleor?s Essential Balm.

Just one word of warning though. After I used this product nightly for about 10 days, I noticed that around my nose
were patches of?wait for it?dry skin! Dry skin on me ? a young adolescent with oily T-zone since I was about 12? Well that proves the product is actually doing what it claims and reducing oil production. For this reason, I would say that if you have only slightly oily skin (say on the T zone in combination skin) then only use this product say once every 3 nights and on the other nights use something like the Neroli oil as recommended to me by one of the Decleor counter girls (Yes I did actually actually manage to summon the courage to approach one). If on the other hand your problem is extremely oily skin then I would say that this product would be ideal for use every day.
