Decleor self-tanning cream for the face and body is the best self-tanning product I've ever used, and believe me, I've tried 'em all. I've been addicted to fake-tan since the age of about 12, and am constantly on the lookout for new or improved products. However, after trying Decleor I dont think I'll be trying any more.

I paid £15 for my tube, which is maybe slightly more expensive than others such as Clarins or Lancome which are a couple of quid less I think. Decleor products can be found in most of the major department stores.

Reading the instructions before I used the product, I was surprised to read that you should not moisturise before you apply self tan, as this prevents it from being absorbed properly, and the product is then wasted. The instructions did recommend moisturising your elbows, ankles and knees beforehand though - as any fake-tan followers will tell you these are the danger zones where you could end up looking a bit tangoed. You should also exfoliate your skin beforehand, to remove the deadskin cells - again, it would be a waste of product to apply it to deadskin cells which are going to flake off a few hours later!

The first thing I noticed about the cream was that it was easy to apply, easily absorbed, and the consistency was just right. The smell was very pleasant, and I also noticed that my skin had a very slight sparkle to it, which was quite attractive - just enough to notice but not so much that it would be inappropriate for wearing to work etc. My skin also felt soft and smoother after the cream was absorbed, even without using my normal moisturiser first. I must say that the colour seemed to take quite a while to develop, thought I think its says 4 hours on the instructions. I would recommended applying it the night before, although for some inexplicable reason the instructions say apply in the morning - I suppose so you dont smudge it in bed, although you only have to wait for 20mins
before dressing.

When the colour does come up it really is worth the wait. It is a gorgeous honey tone (there is only one shade), it is very even -I've only ever experienced 1 streak with this product, and that was when I was silly enought to think my arms were long enough to apply the tan to my back myself. The colour is so natural I almost fooled myself. And I really did have a friend whom I hadn't seen for a while commenting that I looked very brown and asking if I'd been on holiday!

The tan is not a wash-off product and lasts for about 3 days, though the colour does fade before this - it is most intense the day after you apply it. A strange but desirable effect of this product is that it seems to make the whites of my eyes and my teeth whiter! Honest! Also, I applied the tan last Saturday and at work today (Monday) a colleague of mine said I was looking 'well'. Now I know what you're thinking - hardly the greatest of compliments, but this is a lady who usually asks me if I'm feeling alright and did I get enough sleep the night before!!

Now, how much more convincing do you need? Go and buy it!

Hi miriamb. I've only just bought another tube of this, so i suppose it is still my product of choice . I should update my op and say there are actually 2 shades, medium, or dark (only for brozed or olive skins). I'm not sure what you mean by 'come off evenly' - it comes off by itself, kind of disintegrates on your skin, but it doesnt come off unevenly, just fades away. To put it on evenly I would suggest using plenty of product so it is absorbed into all areas evenly, as you would a normal moisturiser, and getting someone else to do your back. However I think the next time I buy tan I will go back to clarins, as I haven't used it for years, but it keeps coming first in 'fake tan tests' in magazines etc.

Ever since having a really bad experience with fake tan about 6 yrs ago I've never used it. Is it still your product of choice? And how do you get it to come off evenly? Let me know, please! Great product review though.
