We had a home survey from Allied. Soon later a carpet was fit which shrunk. They replaced it and it shrunk again coming away from the walls. Now apparently this was "my fault" because the floor had no damp course. Of course the surveyor wasn't to blame at all, I was. Teribble terrible experience. Avoid them.
On the 12th of February I ordered a rug from Allied Carpets on-line, after at least 3 phone calls to them I am STILL waiting for the delivery. The first time I called I was told the rug was actually out of stock and I should never have been able to order it but they were ordering one from the manufacturer for me and it would be delivered a week later. After it failed to arrive I phoned them again and was told it was going to arrive a week later on either the Monday or the Tuesday. After it failed to arrive a second time, and I'd wasted 2 days sitting in waiting for it, I phoned them again only to be told they were changing over their invoices to a different system and that had delayed it by another week and that my rug would be delivered "sometime" within the next seven days. During the last phone call I asked them for some compensation for the trouble they have caused with no-show deliveries and the repeated lies from their customer service team but was told it is stated in the terms & conditions if the delivery took more than 14 days it wasn't their fault and they would take no liability which, in my opinion, is no way to treat your customers and there is no way I'll ever buy from them again, either online nor in-store. I have asked for my number to be passed onto a manager and for them to call me back to discuss the appalling customer service. Guess what? I'm still waiting on that too.
My husband and I paid £2000 for carpeting our house - within a few months our carpet is unrecognisable. having accidently trodden mud into the carpet we removed the stain with carpet cleaner specifically for removing the stain following the care instructions- it removed the colour on the carpet and changed the texture, there is nothing we can use on our carpet without damaging it. within a few weeks the colour has faded throughout the carpet. Allied has washed their hands of the problem without doing anything to help at all. a terrible company providing shoddy quality carpets.
I recently bought a carpet from Allied carpets and was reasonably happy with most of the service I received. On visiting the shop a sales assistant asked if he could help then gave us chance to look around before coming over again. He was very knowledgable on the carpets available and was able to give us some advice and point out ones that we might be interested in. We chose our carpet and underlay and went to order it, the price was very reasonable and there was free delivery and fitting. I got a phone call a few days later saying it was in stock and they could come the next morning to fit it, as I was on maternity leave at the time this was fine, I'm not sure how long I would have had to wait had I been working, but we were informed that it was unlikely to be very soon when we ordered. All good so far ... The next morning the two carpet fitters came and proceeded to fit the carpet very quickly and very satisfactorily (I had had to strip the last carpet and underlay out the night before). The fitters then left and left me with a newly fitted carpet on my stairs, a pile of carpet cuttings in the kitchen, a pile of carpet cuttings in the front room, a pile of carpet cuttings in my bedroom, carpet shavings all over every floor in the house and a newborn baby - thanks for that! Ok the fitting was free so maybe I shouldn't expect too much and I've learnt for next time and will be more pushy but I wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult to see a woman with a young baby and ask for a couple of bin bags which they could have filled with the small bits and put in the bin on the way out.
The Allied Carpets that are local to where I live are very nice and as soon as you walk in the stores look spacious, very clean looking and very professional. They have a great range of carpets, flooring and rugs and looked much more appealing than some of the other flooring outlets nearby. I found that the prices were around the same as other carpet and flooring stores that I have visited recently and they often have some good special offers on. I find that the staff in general are very helpful and pointed me in the right direction when I explained what I was looking for, but they were not pushy and left me alone to browse at ease which I found made the experience pleasant as I can't stand stores where the sales assistants pounce on you as soon as you step foot inside. They certainly knew their stuff and advised me on the right type of carpet for each of the rooms I was looking for. My local store which is Wellingborough is split onto two floors with carpets downstairs and flooring and rugs upstairs. I did find that upstairs was uncomfortably hot, to the point where I was nearly passing out. I don't know whether any other branches suffer from this, but this is the only thing that put me off staying in there any longer. I haven't made my mind up which carpets and flooring I will be buying yet as I still have a couple of other places I want to try just to compare for price and colours, but Allied Carpets definitely had some that were in the running and I wouldn't hesitate to use them for my purchases.
