Advantages: Beautiful, good selection, great restaurants, exclusive, ambiance

Disadvantages: Expensive

My mum and dad always used to take me to Harrods as a child. It was a Christmas tradition that my dad would take me a few days before the holiday to buy mum's presents.

We'd make a whole day of it starting at the top, working down, spending an hour in the Toy Kingdom, having lunch at the Terrace Bar. It just made the season.

Now I'm older and out on my own if I ever feel glum I get my glad rags on and jump on the tube to Knightsbridge. The place not only for shopping but for just totally lifting your mood.

The staff are always polite and smiling, there's the chance to see celebrities and you really can get absolutley anything here. There's always some great gift deals on too. With exclusive perfume and make up give aways when you buy certain products to the latest electricals from Japan.

The shop is beautifully decorated and has it's own resident Santa complete with 2 hour queue (but with plenty to entertain you whilst you wait) and a photo at the end.

The Toy Kingdom, even for the grown ups, is magical. With toy demonstrators and all the Barbie and Hello Kitty stuff you could wish for.

The restaurants and bars are good too. Although expensive the food is fantastic, the service amazing and the entertainment good too. You might catch a glimpse of the piano that plays itself as well.

Harrods is a magical wonderland in my opinion. Superior to that of Selfridges and Harvey Nicks. It has something for everybody and you don't even need to buy anything. But for the sweet toothed a trip to the food court is a must!

Summary: More than just a shop

I agree, Harrods is a very special place worth visiting. I also think that looking rather than buying is a better option - you can get lots of things somewhere else for the fraction of Harrods' price. Richard.

I've taken a couple of foreign visitors to the place. One was fascinated by the 'adult games' signs. To the other I told her about the old saying about you could even buy an elephant from there if you needed one. They seemed to be short on stock, but we *did* find her German-English textbook which had the same old piece of trivia in.
