Advantages: Their Xmas puds are fantastic!

Disadvantages: I can't afford to buy anything else there!

HARRODS

I don’t particularly like London, too many people and too busy and I absolutely hate the underground, but I do love to visit Harrods, which is why I always try and pay a visit there around this time of year.

CHRISTMAS PUDDING

Why? Because Harrod’s make the best ever Christmas puddings and they are not extortionately expensive either, last visit I paid around 15 quid for a large pud, which considering it came from the UK’s most expensive store is not too bad. Not that I bought it for any other reason than I honestly believe Harrod’s Christmas puddings are THE Best! They even beat any home made ones I have ever tasted, they are chock full of fruit and you can taste the brandy in them, rich and dark with an excellent flavour.

OTHER GOODIES

Of course I don’t just go for the puddings, I also go to browse round the different departments. It is a pleasure to look at all the wonderful things on display, from the clothes to cosmetics to gifts and toys. Most of them are way out of my price league of course, but that doesn’t stop me looking. There are goods from all over the world on display, some of them you won’t find elsewhere in the UK so it is a real different kind of shopping experience.

EXPENSIVE

I am not sure that even if I was incredibly rich that I would buy from Harrods, the prices do seem way too high and I really cannot see how anyone can justify paying thousands of pounds for an outfit, when they could get one equally as nice for a lot less.

CELEBS

I don’t think I have ever seen any celebs when I have been in Harrods, but then again, I am not the greatest at remembering faces, so even if they stopped next to me I doubt if I would recognise anyone famous anyway. Unless it was Paul McCartney or the Queen or somebody, then I might just know who they are. But I am sure the celebs do shop at Harrods in their hundreds, otherwise how on earth can they justify the prices they charge? They are not for Mr and Mrs Ordinary are they!

LAYOUT

I like the way the store is set out, the departments are easy to locate and the staff are always very polite and helpful. Not at all snobby like some shop assistants in posh shops are.

OTHER BRANCHES

Although the main Harrods store is in London, I do know there is a small Harrods shop at Manchester airport. (I am not sure about other airports). This is perhaps for the overseas visitors to the north of England who have heard of Harrods but haven’t been to London to see for themselves. At the airport shop they can buy various souvenirs with the Harrods logo on, including shopping bags which they can flaunt wherever they go!

FIRST VISIT

My first visit to Harrods was many years ago, around Christmastime again. I bought a bauble for the Christmas tree and it has Harrods written on it in gold and also the year (can’t remember what year it was and I am not scrambling in the loft to find out just for this review!). It hangs from our tree every year and reminds me of that first trip, which was far more exciting than any of the others have been. But I suppose the first time you go to a place you have heard so much about, then you are bound to be excited about it, then it never quite lives up to expectations on subsequent visits.

However, I shall be tripping off shortly to buy my Christmas pud and hope the quality is as good as always! You never know, I might also buy one or two of my Christmas pressies there too if I can find anything that costs less than a couple of hundred pounds!!!

Summary: Harrods - a shopping experience everyone should visit at least once.
