Advantages: Located in Knightsbridge, polite staff, good selection of restaurants

Disadvantages: full of tourists, could be a bit difficult to afford with those dooyoo miles

Harrods can be said to be one of the major internationally recognized tourist attractions in London. Visit Harrods on a Saturday afternoon and the store is packed with tourists. Unlike very bland department stores such as Peter Jones, Harrods has gone through many transformations of the years. One of the biggest changes could be said to be the addition of restaurants on the ground floor.

Harrods caters for a wide range of cuisine. I have eaten at most of the restaurants in Harrods including the pizzeria, Morelli's Gelato, The Green Man Pub, Rotisserie, The Georgian Restaurant and the sushi bar to name a few. Overall my favourite would be the Georgian Restaurant for hamburgers, the sushi bar for sushi and the pizzeria for pizza.

The restaurants are not cheap though. With those hard earned dooyoo miles one would be lucky enough to afford a coffee. The most reasonable is probably the pizzeria at about £20+ per head; however unlike a normal restaurant this is a place to sit down, eat and then go. The sushi bar serves extremely good sushi, better than most traditional sushi restaurants in London but also extremely expensive.

Depending on the restaurant, the type of customer various. The fish restaurant that serves top of the range caviar and smoked salmon tends to attract a lot of rich Russians, where as the pizzeria tends to attract a lot of rich Arabs.

Other than the restaurants, Harrods has all the usual departments with a wide range of goods from electronics to homeware, kitchens, real estate, perfume, musical instruments.

Unlike stores such as Peter Jones, the staff at Harrods are extremely polite, addressing customers as sir/madam. This makes shopping at Harrods a pleasant experience.

Overall Harrods is a not just a department store but also a tourist attraction recognized internationally around the world.

Summary: A place for the rich
