Advantages: Luxury department store

Disadvantages: Expensive!

I took my first trip to Harrods a couple of years ago while in Knightsbridge. It is located very close to the underground station in Knightsbridge, making it a convenient visit if you are having a day out.

No matter which direction you are coming from there will be an entrance near you as there are several of them located around the building, each of which have a security guard and often someone to open the door for you on arrival. You will instantly be hit by the luxury element of this store, its impossible not to notice.

Harrods brings a new meaning to the phrase department store and is different from other high end stores I.e Harvey Nichols. It is so grand both from the outside and in, with something for everyone. There are several floors with plenty of maps to guide your way round as it can be a little confusing.

They stock everything from jewellery and cosmetics to dogs and rabbits, with everything in-between! The food hall is an absolute must see and the quality of the food severed is fantastic (albeit expensive). The ice cream palour on one of the upper levels is great too, although think approximately £15 per ice cream, but a great experience nonetheless.

Being one of England's most iconic stores you can expect it to be busy and absolute mayhem at the weekends. There will be queues everywhere and it can take quite some time to be served, so I would advise going as early in the day as possible. It's hard to leave without buying anything...

I must mention the chihuhuha section which has the most adorable puppies you have ever seen with prices in excess of £2000. They are in show to the public and so so cute! They also have a little dog parlour too where you can watch the dogs being trimmed etc.

Harrods is definitely worth a visit, even if you go once. Also it's worth noting that they do a fab collection of designer handbags...

Summary: Great as part of a day out
