Advantages: good offers

Disadvantages: expensive

Selfridges has got to be one of my favourite stores. It's huge and you can get just about anything in there. We were in the store last week looking for luggage. There was a good range in stock and Massimo was extremely helpful and knowledgable. We came away with exactly what we wanted - two holdalls, with wheels, and with the ability to be carried as a ruck sack as well! We wanted to 'touch and feel' and had gone expecting a big mark up but were pleasantly surprised to .discover the prices were very comparable with online prices. They were Delsey at £125 each. Two comments and observations though: First, the smell coming down from the (excellent) Food Hall into the chocolate/sweets section was really quite noxious as you pass through; perhaps Selfridges could deal with that. Secondly, we decided to have a light lunch in the 'Brass Rail' salad/salt-beef bar. My wife took a salad from the counter. She wanted a bread roll to go with it but there weren't any on display so we asked Gerry (girl) on the till. She just grunted 'don't have any' without even looking up. We suggested she might give us one of the large rolls being used for the salt-beef meals. The answer was no. At that point, luckily, Tim - possibly one of the managers, who I noticed was catching up on some paperwork nearby - heard what was going on, came across, grabbed one of the large salt-beef rolls, cut it in half and handed it over; 25p. Perfect!
