TJ Hughes - great for electrical bargains (T J Hughes)

Advantages: Cheaper than most stores, branded products

Disadvantages: Some of the clothes are not vey trendy!

TJ Hughes is a discount store, very similar to Matalan in the fact that they sell a lot of clothes - men's,women's and childrens and also a lot of other products such as books, cheap DVDs ( not chart titles), perfume, toiletries, cosmetics,seasonal items, toys etc at very low prices.

The clothes department is not what I would call very hip and trendy, although I did get some Miss Sixty Jeans for £10. They do look like slight seconds at a close glance as some stiching is a bit loose, but I'm the only one who can see this. It's not somewhere I would go if I was looking for the perfect night out oufit, but ideal for things like work clothes or casual summer clothes. I recently bought 3 vest tops for £5, and at that price it doesn't matter if you get suncream all over them and end up discarding them at the end of the summer season.

I also recently bought a Gossard Bra which retails at £20 for just £5 in this store, just to give you another idea of the saving potential.

They have some fantastic offers that are usually on large adverts in the windows, some recent ones have been for GHD hair straigteners (the gold edition with bag) which was £30 off retail price, and Olay moisturisers down from £20 to £10. Even without the offers on though, their items are still much cheaper than main high street stores.

The best thing I find about TJ Hughes is the electrical goods. They sell all sorts of household things such as kettles, toasters, sandwich makers, smoothie makers, microwaves and loads more and they are always on a massive price cut compared with other stores, and not by a few pounds - anything up to £50 off the RRP,depending on the price of the product.

My boyfriend and I bought our kettle, toaster and iron from our local TJ Hughes. We checked out the prices in there, then luckily the local Argos store is just over the road, so we compared prices in the Argos book, and we saved loads of money, I think it was around £40 in total on just these items. It meant we could afford to buy items that would have normally been out of our price range if we had stuck to shops such as Argos or Comet for example.

It's a great place to buy perfume from too,I bought a 100ml bottle of D & G perfume from there for £25, when it was £50 in boots. I couldn't believe the saving. I was going to go for the 50ml bottle in Boots for £25, but I'm glad I shopped around as I got twice the amount for my money.

I'm not sure if this is the same in all TJ Hughes stores, but there is a cafe in my local one too, atlhough I have never used it so can't really comment on that part of it.

My advice is to have a look around as they sell a huge variety of products, and I am the first to admit that yes, some of it is what my boyfriend would call "tat" and could be low quality, but the perfumes,cosmetics, some clothes ( ie underwear, jeans etc) and the electrical items are all well known brands but at a much lower price than the majority of high street stores.
