Dermalogica Clearing Mattifier
by crimsonjeanie
I am in my thirties and have fair, oily skin which is prone to breakouts.
About five years ago when I worked abroad and had vastly more disposal income than I have now I used only Dermalogica products for facial care. When I settled down in the UK and had to start worrying about bills and rent and stuff I realised that I was ... going to have to make some changes if I didn't want to end up broke (albeit with lovely clear skin!) To this end I went about replacing all my pricey Dermalogica products with equally effective cheaper brands, and I have been hugely successful. With moisturiser, cleanser, toner and 'on the spot' treatments all downsized, I was left with just two things which I've found to be irreplaceable - and this magical mattifier is one of them.
After I have cleansed my face I put the mattifier on my chin and the sides of my nose (on my face these are the spotty oily bits). Then I use my regular moisturiser everwhere else. The mattifier goes on incredibly smoothly and makes my skin feel really silky. It's an excellent base for make-up and just has the most amazing smoothing, balancing effect.
I find that products containing salicylic acid work wonders on my skin and my cleanser and toner both have this 'magic ingredient' in. This gel is brilliant because the salicylic acid is in contact with your skin for a long time so it's got plenty of time to soak in and do its work. My skin is very temperamental and it's difficult to say if any one product has made a big difference but I do feel that this mattifier helps prevent breakouts and control oiliness, and I would even go so far as to say that if I was stranded on a desert island and could only take five toiletry items with me this would be on the list!
I'm a bit of a bargain hunter these days and don't like spending lots of money on things like toiletries and beauty products - but as far as I'm concerned this isn't a luxury - it's an everday essential, and one I'm going to keep buying, even if it means surviving on toast and supernoodles for the last few days of the month! Dermalogica Solar Sun Wipes SPF 15
by europe-chick
I tried these Dermalogica solar defense wipes for the first time a couple of years ago. One of the hotels that we stayed at in California left a packet of these on the bed for us to use. This was the first Dermalogica product that I'd tried, and I've since bought other products in the range. I wouldn't have ever bought these for myself, ... in fact I wouldn't have ever strayed from my regular sun protection which is P20. Seeing as how they were a treat with the room, and knowing that Dermalogica products are expensive I figured that I'd give them a go.
These sun protection wipes come in a little resealable pouch like wet ones. You get 15 wipes in the packet. They have an SPF of 15, and they are suitable for all skin types. They are hygienic, pre-moistened sunscreen wipes suitable for both the face and body. They contain no artificial fragrance or colour, and as such are suitable for sensitive skin. The little convenient packet makes them ideal for travel, you can take them anywhere, just pop them in your handbag and you will always have them handy. They are really easy to apply either at home before you head out, or out on the go. The pouch reseals very securely, the wipes stay fresh and moist and don't dry out.
To use you just pull out and unfold one towelette and then gently wipe it evenly over your face and body 30 minutes prior to sun exposure. The packet does advise that for continuous protection you need to apply regularly and reapply as needed after swimming or exercise, but then again all sun tan lotions advise this. I found them really easy to apply and there was no mess involved, no sticky or greasy hands, and no need to wait to get dressed. They didn't leave my skin sticky or greasy at all, the sun protection within the wipe just seemed to sink into my skin. I also found that they were actually quite moisturising and left my skin feeling really soft. They just seemed to glide over my skin, I especially liked that they didn't aggravate the skin on my face or clog up my pores. One wipe was certainly large enough to do one application of my face, arms and legs.
I would buy these again, not to replace my P20, but to supplement it. I have very fair skin, with tonnes of freckles, and I do not tan at all, in fact I burn really easily. I'm therefore paranoid when I'm out in the sun. I tended to use these wipes for days when I would only be out in the sun for a short time, I didn't ever try them for a whole day in the sun, with my fair skin I didn't trust them for this. I didn't burn after having used these, but I was never in the sun for more than a couple of hours afterwards.
As I mentioned I didn't actually buy them myself, they came with our hotel room, but I've seen them online for around £15.00 a packet, this is quite expensive, a pound per wipe, a bottle of suntan lotion is much better value for money. But for the ease of use, effectiveness and convenience I would buy these again. In fact we're off on holiday to the US again next month, and I'm definitely going to pick up another packet whilst we're there. We're also staying at that same hotel in California where I got the original packet, maybe they'll leave me another packet this time as well! Read the complete review |
