Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
by steve4oo
I make every effort I can to look after my skin properly but often it can be really hard to find the time. A good moisturiser is essential for me, but until recently I put the other elements of a beauty regime to one side.
After applying foundation a few weeks ago, I caught a close up glance of my skin in daylight and noticed ... a few dry patches of skin around the area of my nose. It wasn't particularly noticeable, but once I knew it was there it really began to bug me. I decided it was probably time to invest in some products that will look after my skin properly and bring it back to its silky soft self. Dermalogica seemed to be the right brand for me.
** The Brand **
Dermalogica are largely considered as a high end beauty brand, focusing primarily on facial products although they do a few body products within their range.
They have specially formulated products for particular needs such as ageing skin and even a selection of products for shaving which are for men. Aside from that though, they have products which are designed to restore dull skin and make it healthy and smooth.
They offer a unique service called face mapping which looks at different areas of our face individually and uses this to give you the best possible products for your skin. This service is highly recommended by Dermalogica.
** The Product **
In terms of the exterior of this product, it is typical of Dermalogica. It comes in a white container, that has fairly dark grey writing stating the brand and product name on the front. The back of the container contains some general product information and directions for use.
The lid can be removed by giving it a little twist and pulling. One thing I noticed was how cheap the lid felt, quite flimsy and very thin plastic. Admittedly, this surprised me a little. Once the lid is removed, there are small holes which the exfoliator is dispensed from. It does come out quite quickly, so it's definitely worth doing this with caution!
The exfoliator itself is actually a rice based enzyme powder so when you initially dispense it from the container, you will see small solid granules and not liquid as you might expect. It also contains papain enzyme and salicyclic acid which help to dissolve excess surface skin cells. Similarly licorice, grapefruit and aspergillus help to even out skin tone.
** Using the product **
I had received a small sample of this product before I purchased it so I half knew what I could expect from it. As I mentioned earlier, it is in a solid powder form which is something I had not come across with an exfoliator before. Because of this, Dermakogica recommend you dispense it into very wet hands. I found this can be tricky, so I prefer to dispense the product into my left hand (dry) and then wet my right hand and rub them together, it's a lot less messy that way!
Once it meets water, it turns into a thick paste and the exfoliating granules remain and can be felt when rubbing it onto the skin. It creates a really creamy paste that is relatively easy to spread across the whole face. It is recommended on the container that you use half a tea spoon of product and I personally find that is plenty for me.
The directions for use state it should be rubbed in circular motions for one minute for the best results. This is relatively easy to carry out as unlike some other products, the skin doesn't seem to soak the product up so you can continue to rub it over the skin for the recommended amount of time. The granules don't feel too harsh on the skin and do not leave it feeling tingly at all, making it suitable for everyday use.
When it comes to removing the product, it is really as easy as applying it. A massive issue for me is remaining granules that are left on the skin, despite thinking you have washed them all off. This really drags out the process and is the most irritating thing for me. However, with this product, I only have to rinse my face with warm water either using my hands or a face wipe and it comes off immediately without leaving any residue behind. It also has a slight scent, although nothing overpowering but it isn't particularly pleasant and it smells quite 'natural' but this doesn't stay around for long afterwards.
** Results **
Usually, after removing the exfoliator I will use a toner and moisturiser. However, I think this product is probably the one that has the most impact on my skin.
After the first use I noticed the patches of dry skin under my foundation had miraculously vanished, with no explanation for it other than the work of the exfoliator. It leaves my skin looking bright and revitalised, reducing the appearance of dull and neglected skin.
I do also have slightly uneven skin tone, again around my nose area, and although it isn't noticeable unless you are aware it is there, this really seems to reduce its visibility and so it has helped to give me a bit of a confidence boost too.
My skin is left looking fresher and with the help of the moisturiser, it creates a great base for foundation to be applied evenly over the top.
** Pricing and availability **
Like all Dermalogica products, they cannot be located in your usual high street stores. They seem to have various stockists, but you can check your local ones by visiting Dermalogica's website and using the locator tool. However they are readily available online. I purchased mine from Pure Beauty, getting a fair few Dermalogica samples and free next day delivery included too.
I purchased a 75g container, which according to www.purebeauty.co.uk has a recommended retail price of £38.50 however you can get it from them at £29.65 which is definitely a discount worth having.
** Summary **
On the whole, I am very pleased with this product. I really wanted a beauty routine that was easy and convenient for me to carry out and as lazy as it sounds, requiring as little effort and time as possible. The exfoliator has given me everything I was expecting in that respect.
I has exceeded my expectations in terms of the appearance of my skin as it looks so much fresher and very healthy. More importantly though, my foundation applies flawlessly over the top as my dead cells are removed leaving a smooth and even layer.
Although this is by no means a cheap product, I haven't come across anything that comes close to this on the high street and I have tried a lot of products. Despite the price, I fully expect this to last me at least a year of regular use, making it slightly easier to justify the price. Nevertheless, I will purchase it again when I do run out.
I am giving this product 5/5 Dooyoo stars as I am really impressed with the quality and results. For more information, visit www.Dermalogica.com. Read the complete review |

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

I was luckily enough to recently get my hands on a sample pack of Dermalogica goodies!! After using some products before from the brand and loving them I had high hopes! Thankfully I was not at all disappointed.
This product is a smooth, creamy, lightweight daily facial cleanser/exfoliant. Firstly when you open the lid you ... will notice a few holes on he top of the pot where the product comes out. Tip a small amount of product onto damp hands. Please take care when tipping the product out as it can come out quite fast. The product itself is in the form of very small, white granules, which was a suprise to me.
Once you have enough product into the palm of your hand, lightly rub your hands together and apply all over the face in circular motions. You will notice immediately that the granules, mixed with the dampness of your hands and face start to form a creamy, slightly foamy consistency. This feels absolutely amazing on the face, the smoothness is quickly felt with the first rub on the face. The granules just melt into the skin as you are rubbing in the product.
When rubbing in you can feel your face becoming cleaner, smoother and silky soft. This product is a type of exfoliant so it is designed to remove dryness and dead skin cells. However my personal opinion is that this is more than just that, I feel that it is a cleanser as it removes all make up and cleans the face. Obviously it is a exfoliant and I think it does act a bit like a moisturiser as it made my skin feel so smooth, radiant and nourished.
The product is so easy to use and is so quick, your face is cleansed and scrubbed clean in a matter of minutes! The product easily rinses off, no residue is le on the skin after use, which I have found with similar products. The effects and feelings of smoothness, silkly softness and cleanliness lasts right through until morning when used in the evening and all through the day when used in the morning.
This is such an airy and lightweight product that you are able to use it everyday and it will not harm your skin or irritate it in any way. Read the complete review |
