Active Moist is a product that has specifically been created for people like me whose skin produces too much oil. Oily skin can be a real pain. It can look greasy pretty soon after it has been washed, often has enlarged pores and frequently leads to spots and blackheads forming. On the plus, apparently us ladies with oily skin will look younger for longer as our skin very rarely has the opportunity to become dehydrated.

What does it do?
The product itself is a moisturiser for the face that is free from oil and finds that happy place somewhere between hydrating the skin and preventing the production of excess oils. It's a light lotion that is packed full of natural ingredients and does not contain any artificial fragrances or colouring so it will be gentle enough to be used on sensitive skin. It is suitable for use on both men and women.

How does it work?
Active Moist contains Silk Amino Acids which improve the skins texture leaving it feeling soft and silky. It is able to sink deeply into the skin and binds moisture in deeply which prevents the skin from becoming dry and aging before its time. The feeling of velvet that Active Moist leaves your skin with is because of this substance.

A whole host of ingredients are included in this lotion in order to act as astringents, tightening the pores and reducing the amount of oil that is being let loose. Lemon helps to dry out acne and detoxifies the skin. Ivy helps to tighten the skin which keeps it looking youthful while Watercress tones the skin and leaves it feeling smoother. Burdock helps to heal the skin and improves the appearance of many skin conditions.

Lavender is included because of its anti bacterial and soothing qualities. It stimulates the growth of healthy new skin cells and helps to keep the skin looking younger by given it a gentle moisturisation. The Mallow which is present is equally soothing and helps to heal the skin while reducing any puffiness. The Cucumber within the lotion is cooling on the skin and softens the face. Grape is included because it is packed full of vitamins and minerals which nourish the skin.

Sage fights against spot causing bacteria and calms inflamed blemishes and the Arnica Montana Flower serves the same purpose while also speeding up the healing process on any blemishes that you may already have.

How do you use it?
The product is designed to be used after cleansing, toning and exfoliating and is to be applied to the face using gentle, upward strokes. The only difference is that this product is to be applied to damp skin. I tried doing this and it didn't really work for me because once I had applied the product, I had the urge to dry my face which would have wiped it back off again. Because of this, I choose to apply to clean, dry skin and although this may mean that I don't get the full benefit of the product, I think that I get more of a benefit than if I was to wipe it back off.

Packaging and price
The packaging as always with this brand is plain and boring. This is because Dermalogica claims that what is inside the tube and bottles is good enough to sell itself without fancy packaging or advertising. Active Moist is in a plain white tube with some grey writing across it and a grey lid to access the contents.

I bought mine from the Lookfantastic website for £21 and for my money I got 50ml of Active Moist. It is usually much more expensive and perhaps can also be found for even cheaper. It is available from many different websites so it's a good idea to shop around for this one to ensure that you are going to get a good deal.

My thoughts
This product really does manage to give my skin enough moisture without causing any shine or greasiness on my already difficult skin. Some products for oily skin dry out my dry areas such as my forehead and nose even more but this doesn't do that.

The consistency of Active Moist is perfect. It is incredibly light and is absorbed easily into my skin. Some moisturisers can enhance that horrible feeling of greasiness on my skin but this one doesn't actually feel like I'm wearing a moisturiser, but it still gives all the positive effects of one.

My skin stays look fresh and clean for longer, from the minute it has been applied. It hasn't caused any redness, discomfort or blemishes on my sensitive and spot prone skin. I do still get the occasional blemish but I don't think any product would be able to completely kick my skin into shape. Nevertheless, my skin feels soft and much smoother than before.

My make up can be applied easily over the top and it has no negative effect on how my foundation looks on my face. It simply helps it to last longer because the foundation doesn't slide straight off again.

My only criticism is that the size of the bottle for the price is a bit unfair. This is a product that I want to use night and day but if I did that, then this would only last two minutes so I try and space out my usage to make it last longer.

I now compare all of the moisturisers for oily skin that I find to Simple's Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser because I think that this product also does a good job and it is very cheap. Active Moist feels fresher and much lighter on my skin and manages to prevent any dryness, whereas Simple does cause a little dryness. Active Moist is also packed full of natural goodness which you can feel nourishing your skin.

All in all, apart from the price and the amount that you get for it, this is a faultless little product that perfectly finds the balance between moisturising and preventing oily skin in a natural way, leaving your skin clear, soft and smooth.
