Advantages: Non stripping or drying and yet effective.
Disadvantages: Not suitable for all skin types.
Some masks that are targeted for the oilier skin type can be sometimes quite drying and irritating on the skin. They may technically dry the skin out but that's not what balancing the skin and targeting the spots is all about. ( You don't want to be pushing the skin's oil production into producing any more than normal, which tends to happen when you strip your skin of its oils. ) This mask doesn't do that, it's a skin exfoliator and soother that attacks spot forming bacteria on the skin.
*Who is this for ? *
If you have normal to dry skin, you don't need this and you won't like it. Save your money for a mask that WILL suit your skin's needs. This is for combination to oily skin types with problematic skin. This is also not for the person who just receives the odd spot, it's too strong for your needs and you should target them in a more gentle like manner with a different mask. If someone has purchased it for you however, you could always target single spots with the mask however, which also works effectively !!
I have combination skin and will use this mask as and when required, however, those with oilier skin types may want to use this on a more regular weekly basis to keep their skin under control.
*Why does it work ? *
Salicylic Acid is the AHA based ingredient that will exfoliate oily skin and will help to remove pore blocking dead-skincells. Some AHAs can not cut through the oil on your skin and so will not work as effectively.
It also contains the likes of Triclosan and Alginated Zinc Triplex (which is thought to help to reduce inflammation, regulate excess oil and prevent future breakouts, ) Panthenol ( i.e a form of Vitamin B5 helps to promote healing and skin repair, ) Essential oils of Rosemary, Sage and Orange ( to calm the skin,) Tea Tree Oil, ( a natural antiseptic to aid in skin repair ) and a blend of antioxidant botanicals.
All in all, it does an effective job at helping to calm, soothe and fight spot forming bacterica, whilst helping to clear away pore blocking dead skin cells.
*How to use *
Apply a thin layer to cleansed and toned skin. Leave for 5 to 7 minutes and then rinse off with warm water or wet muslin cloth/flannel.
I also use this to target the odd spot and leave it over-night !!
