Advantages: Does the job

Disadvantages: Expensive

As with most teenagers, I have been battling the spots even since I hit puberty. Since I've started university, the stress and work seems to pile up, which tends to accelerate the rate of break-outs and blemishes appearing on my skin. Over the years, I have used a handful of spot treatments and I have to say Dermalogica Clean Start range is exceptionally good at giving good results and fighting spots.

Dermalogica skin care products aren't one of my usual purchases as they are very expensive, especially for students. However, spots and blemishes are painful and makes me fear of looking at mirrors sometimes. Therefore, I thought to try this product as it has good recommendations.

Dermalogica Clean Start Hit The Spot targets the spots/blemishes and helps to reduce and redness and soreness. The product comes in a small tube that is white in colour. It is a simple design made for easy application. The tube has a clicker button at one end, which enables the user to dispense the right amount of gel each time. I find this very useful because I frequently end up using too much pressure and wasted the expensive product with other brands. However, try and be careful not to press too hard on the button as it might end up dispensing too much gel as well; it's easy to get used to using this product.

As for the performance of this product, I find that it does significantly reduce the pain and redness that comes with break-outs from my experience. However, I do realise that there's no product that can make the spots disappear in a flash. Therefore, patience is required to see results when using this product. However, I do find that Dermalogica Hit the Spot works a lot quicker compared to other blemish-treating products. Within two or three days, red spots would have been significantly reduced in size and colour. Just be careful not to apply this gel when skin is broken as it will cause stinging and pain on top of the soreness caused the spots. Also from my experience, after a day or two, the area to which the gel has been applied will start to dry out and peel; it is not painful, in fact it helps with the discolouration of skin so I personally don't think it's a problem. However, this may poses a problem for those with dry skin: as a side note, I have normal to oily skin.

One complaint I have about this product is the price. Certainly, if it works the price is worth it but £14.00, which is the retail price, is a lot for a small tube of 10 ml gel. I mean this 10 ml tube does last for about 6 months if you have occasional break-outs, but it's also whether or not you would pay £14.00 to fight the spots. I would say if spots and blemishes are a big problem, and this offers a great solution, then go for it. Personally, I am very pleased with the performance of this product and I would consider buying this again because the product helps me a lot when it comes to maintaining good skin.
