Advantages: It's a nice concept

Disadvantages: It didn't soak up excess oil after repeated usage and was a bit too searching for my delicate skin

Generally speaking, I don't use clay cleansers or clay face masks any more as my past experiences of them have been less than impressive. This particular one was sent by a relative in the US who swears by Dermalogica and its effects so I was intrigued to see if it really worked seeing as Dermalogica is one of the more expensive skincare brands.

***The Cleanser***
This isn't your typical cleanser as it is clay-based. To use, you simply wet your face and massage the cleanser into your skin, paying special attention to oily and spot-prone areas. The general idea is that the clay will soak up excess oil so that spots are less likely to develop. Having suffered from problem skin since I was in my early teens, I loved the idea of using this on a regular basis in the hope that it did a good job of sorting things out. The cleanser itself is a white shade and at first glance, it bears more resemblance to a cream-based cleanser as it is quite runny. Once I started massaging it into my skin though, the clay properties became more apparent. Although it was easy to massage, the thin consistency made it seem as though it was disappearing into my skin and I kept having to use another dollop to make sure that there was enough to massage. The smell is quite medicated, which I didn't expect.

***The Results***
After using it for the first time, I was quite impressed with its effects as it seemed to soak up a good lot of excess oil and took away the shiny complexion that I often end up sporting midway through the day. After a few uses though, I started to notice the shiny sheen returning and it seemed to lose its effectiveness with regular usage. I expected it to have some effect at closing my pores, but it didn't seem to. Although my skin is oily and spot-prone, it can be quite sensitive and this cleanser seemed to be a bit too searching at times as it left my skin feeling quite dry and tight sometimes.

***The Price***
This certainly isn't the cheapest cleanser on the market as one of the cheapest that I've found is £20.14 on Amazon. For what it does, I don't think that the price tag is entirely justified as it didn't seem to live up to the claims as far as my skin was concerned.

Summary: Would have been an expensive disappointment as it didn't seem that good on my skin
