Advantages: An effective mask with quality ingredients.
Disadvantages: Not suitable for oilier skin types as it's very rich.
I'll hold my hands up to being a skincare junkie and my bathroom shelves in the current economic climate are probably most shameful. However, I'll admit to being quite fickle as I can't help but buy and test new products that I haven't tried before all the time. Having said that, there's a few favourites that I have on my shelves that I return to because I know and trust them to work when my skin needs it and this is one of them when my skin is suffering from the elements and needs a moisturising boost.
*Who is this for ? *
I would say teenage years onwards and as it's been formulated especially for drier skin types you don't necessarily need to have visible signs of aging for this mask to have a positive effect on the skin. Therefore anyone with dry skin that needs a boost would respond well to this mask.
However, if you're skin is becoming drier and drier as you mature and you are seeing those signs of aging on the skin, then this mask is a god send !! I personally have combination skin which is prone to breakouts, however, there are times throughout the year when my skin suffers from cold weather, central heating and air conditioning more than other times and I use this about once a week during those months to keep my skin in tip-top condition. If you have oily skin however you probably won't like this mask as it's very rich on the skin and so in your case I would wait until the visible signs of aging on your skin has become your prime target, as opposed to targeting skin balancing and/or other issues associated with having oily skin. ( If you have oily skin and it IS suffering from dehydration and/or needs a moisturisation boost then I would recommend Dermalogica's hydrating mask instead as it's a gel based mask and will suit your skin much better.)
Overall, this mask is for anyone who has either dry skin and/or are showing any visible signs of aging on the skin OR other skin types when their skins needs a maximum moisturisation boost.
*How to use*
I would always apply any mask after cleansing, toning and exfoliating and in that order. In order to exfoliate effectively you need clean skin and in order for the mask to penetrate effectively you need an exfoliated skin.
If you want a super boost to your masks I would apply a serum or oil depending on the product. Some ingredients and products work better in tandem than others but I tend to use my favourites that I use during my daily skincare routines.
Apply the mask ( I tend to use the mask brushes that are shaped like fans because the product goes on easier, it's less messy and the product seems to go further ) in a generous layer over the face and neck ( and if your budget can stretch to it I would always try and take my skincare down to my decolletage too. )
If it sinks in almost immediately then your skin needs more and I would apply more over the top.
Leave for aproximately 15 minutes or until the whole lot has sunk in and then rinse. ( For drier skins leaving this mask on over night would give your skin an extra boost. ) With any mask I tend to use a muslin cloth to remove as some masks can leave a 'film' like feeling on the skin if you try and remove with water alone. So soak the muslin cloth in warm water ( not hot as hot water is not good for the skin ) and then rinse the muslin cloth out. For those with no muslin cloths, flannels and the like are fine too.
Once you have removed the mask I would always apply a serum/oil/moisturiser and continue with your usual skin care routine. I would use this mask as when required, but I use A skincare mask at least 3-4 times a week. So, if you have a drier skin type you would want to use this more often than someone with more of a combination skin type for example who would probably use other masks that deal with other issues their combination skin has more often.
*Why this product works *
Now if you look at the ingredients you may be confused as to why this mask contains Titanium Dioxide, since it's traditionally an ingredient that is found in suncreams. However, in a mask such as this it acts as a brightener and mask thickener.
It also contains Safflower Oil ( which is a very highly moisturising oil that is deeply soothing for very dry skin types, ) Evening Primrose oil ( which is used for it's enriching and rejuvenating properties,) Ginkgo Biloba Extract ( which is known for its rejuventating properties and it's ability to increase circulation and prevent capillary fragility, ) Tocopheryl Acetate ( i.e a form of Vitamin E ( which is known for it's anti-oxidant and moisturising properties, ) Retinyl Palmitate ( i.e a form Vitamin A which is used for it's moisturising, gentle exfoliation and anti-aging properties, ) Orange Flower Oil ( is thought to have toning and hydrating properties, ) Corn Oils ( which is a popular ingredient for skincare products targeting dry and/or damaged tired skin ) and Honey ( used for its moisturising properties. )
