Advantages: Works but you need to persist

Disadvantages: Dries your skin out and expensive

I recently have had a particularly bad bout of acne on my chin area after stopping using a prescription antibiotic roll on for this area. I have used dermalogica products in the past and so, feeling desperate, I decided to fork out for special clearing booster. It was expensive at 32 pounds from a discount internet store but I had read good reviews and so thought I'd give it a try.

The product comes in a small bottle of 30ml but as you don't need to use a lot this lasts several months. The liquid is clear and is easy to apply. It contains 5% benzoyl peroxide which basically oxygenates the skin so that spots are dried up. This in turn can make your skin quite red, dry and flakey at first. This product also contains zinc which is a well known vitamin for the immune system and skin. Finally it contains soothing botanicals to help calm the inflamation caused by acne.

I found at first it didn't seem to make much of a difference, in fact the redness made my acne look worse. However, i persisted using it twice a day and also applying quite a lot of moisturiser afterwards to help offset the drying caused by the benzoyl peroxide. After about a week I felt that it was helping- no new spots were forming and my acne seemed to dry up. After using it for about 3 weeks it seemed to make a real difference although it didn't get rif of it completely.

I would say it is a really good product but as it's quite expensive it's worth trying other products first that contain benzoyl peroxide (these can be bought at the chemist).

Summary: Worth drying other less expensive products first
