Advantages: Very effective
Disadvantages: Initially Pricey
It has been commented on one of my previous reviews that I list ingredients for the sake of it. I do not do this for the sake of it, however many people actually want to know what is in the product in case they have mild or serious allergies. Many beauty products are not very clear and do not always specify exactly what is in a product. Therefore, I will continue to list ingredients for those that are interested:-
Ingredients: Extracts of: Lavender(Lavandula Angustifolia), Balm Mint(Melissa Officinalis); Aloe Barbadensis Gel, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Lactale, Sodium PCA, Sorbitol, Proline, Propylene Glycol, Extracts of: Mallow(Malva Sylvestris), Ivy(Hedera Helix), Cucumber(Cucumis Sativus), Sambucus Nigra, Arnica Montana, Pellitory(Parietaria Officinalis); Ricinoleth-40, Methyl Gluceth-20, Sorbic Acid, Benzophenone, Polysorbate 20, Disosium EDTA, Diazolidinyl Urea,Methylparaben
The Bottle itself comes in a white plastic tub with a spray top and clear plastic lid that goes over the top of it. I found this unusual for a toner but it makes no difference to the application of the toner itself and I think that using a spray version you actually end up using less.
I want to explain a bit about toners themselves because up until last year I had never used one and if I am being honest had no clue as to why people used them. The correct procedure for skincare should be that you cleanse tone and then moisturise. The cleansing bit I understand, you basically cleanse your skin of all dirt and grease whether that is by using a cleansing lotion, face wash or other methods. However the toning stage I never understood. Once you have cleansed your face, the reason you use toner is to prepare your face for the moisture that you apply at the end. To be honest I though this was a load of old tosh and that it was a bit of a money spinner for the beauty companies.
For those that are genuinely interested in this product try something for me, because this is what my sister-in-law did to me and I was quite shocked. She cleansed the back of both of my hands, like I would with my face in my usual routine. Then what she did was spray toner on my left hand and used a cotton wool ball to wipe off the excess liquid and the right hand she didn't use anything. Once this was done she applied the same amount of moisturiser to the back of both hands. I was truly shocked when I realised that the hand that had toner on it was smooth and completely absorbed all traces of the cream and my hand was soft. My right hand felt almost slimy in comparison. The moisturiser seemed to be almost sitting on top of my skin and felt completely different from my other hand. She explained that my right hand had not been prepared for it and therefore the skin doesn't absorb the cream in the right way. I think this principle applies to all brands although I think it is more evident when you cleanse tone and moisturise with products that belong to the same brand.
Since my revelation I always follow the same routine with my face and have noticed a marked difference. My skin actually absorbs the cream and allows it to do its job now I use toner. I have been using Dermalogica for some time now and although they may seem very expensive when buying you actually use a lot less of their products than you would with high street brands. I have had this bottle for about 5 months and I still have quite a bit in it. I use it every day so I think overall I am getting value for money.
Dermalogica can be brought at many beauty shops or salons but you won't find them in high street shops like Boots. I have shopped around quite a bit and have found that the cheapest place I can get it from is a website called Jersey Beauty Company. I know that many places charge around £25-£28 for this bottle however I paid just under £16 including delivery.
