Advantages: Works well, does help problem areas, smells ok, only a little is needed

Disadvantages: The initial cost of the gel

I have been lucky in that I have never suffered too much with any sort of acne breakouts. Well that was until I reached the end of my twenties and found that I started to suffer the odd breakouts and when I did suffer from these bad spells I would not just be embarrassed by my appearance but the fact that my skin was left feeling really sore. I knew that this as possibly just a change in hormones and age so I was not after any sort of medication but when I started doing a little bit of research online I found that the Dermalogica product, the Overnight Clearing Gel was coming out as being a highly recommended one and as it is this brand that is available in the salon that I use for my beauty treatments I was quick to ask the advice of my consultant and she also only had positive things to say about it.

The Dermalogica brand is not the cheapest on the market and I did not make my purchase in the salon as I knew that a search around the internet would see me finding it much cheaper so I got home and eventually made the purchase for £21.00 of eBay. At full price the 50ml bottle that I brought can be around the £31.00 mark and this is expensive in my opinion, the £21.00 is bad enough but I was hopeful that the gel would make a difference.

The Dermalogica Overnight clearing comes in a small plastic bottle that is mainly black and white in colour. The bottle has the Dermalogica logo on the front and the name of the product and on the reverse is all of the information on the gel. The ingredients listing include things like lavender, rosemary and tee tree oil; I remember using the Body shop tea tree oil stick and this ingredient listing reminded me of that. To apply the oil you need to gently un-twist the black nozzle that's at the top of the bottle, it has a really small opening and this is good as you do not need a great deal of the product when it comes to using it.

The first thing that you will notice about the product is that it has a really lovely smell to it, not chemical like at all and not really medicine smelling! The tea tree is the strongest fragrance that will come through but I can also smell the fresh lavender. The texture of the gel is quite thick and is an off white colour; it is sort of clear with cloudiness to it. As the gel is thick I was expecting it to be tricky to apply but you can get the area fine and really cover the problem zone.

The gel works by drying the skin out and clearing the area with its properties. The thing that makes this different is that it does not make the skin feel tight when on but in fact just gets deep and clears the area. The skin does flake when you have it on so that is why they advise you to wear it overnight as it is impossible to wear make up with this on the area.

The results I must admit are really impressive with this gel, it is a really good product as it really does get to work on the area so when you wake of a morning there is a really noticeable difference, I would not say that the problem is completely clear, but the redness has been removed and the spot will no longer be so sore which is the most important thing for me.

I have no hesitation in recommending this product. It really does the trick and even though it is pricey it will last you forever as such a small amount is needed. The smell is not off putting and it really does tackle problem breakouts

4 out of 5 from me
