As a semi-professional desktop publisher I rate Publisher 2000 very highly for ease of use and the quality of designs that can be generated very quickly. I have always struggled to understand computer jargon and need help files to understand help files. Because of this block I learn through trial and error. It was a big relief when I found Publisher 97 and then moved on to 2000 and could actually understand them. The wizard templates are in the main ghastly, but I start off with a blank page and build designs around wording usually supplied by my customers. I found the templates useful when I was teaching myself, if only to discover how designs were ... Read the complete review

I recently bought MS Office 2000, I wanted to upgrade from Office 97. I had never really used publisher before, except from the occasion bit of art-work, etc. I have now found out about its wide ranging capabilities and I use it all the time. You can create newsletters, magazines, posters, cards and a whole range of business stationary. They have built in wizards to get you started very quickly, although some of their templates are a bit iffy. My favorite feature, the one I use most frequently, is the web page building feature. I have found many people are unaware of this, all you need to do is go to file-new-new web page. Its not just a webpage but ... Read the complete review

A friend of mine gave me a box last Christmas - in it was Microsoft Office Premium 2000. Nice I thought - I'd been using Office 97, and while not a big Microsoft OS fan, the rest of their stuff is usually top drawer. I was comfortable using all the mainstream stuff -Word, Excel etc. but DTP was something I was never really into. My dad, on the other hand, needed a lot of DTP type stuff done for various charitable events he was running, as part of setting up a new fund raising organisation, and as the only computer literate person in the family, it fell to me to do the donkey work. Beforehand, I'd always used Word for this, as I'd never owned a DTP ... Read the complete review

Publisher does a lot of things and makes many of them easy to do. But one thing I disagree with is this insistance that every app should output what it does in HTML and be published on the web. I'm sorry, but certificates don't have a place in my heart or my head when it concerns the web. And the output isn't that good anyway when published to the web. Also, Word, which comes with many many machines these days, would do just as well when creating certificates. Admittedly it doesn't make it too easy out of the box but go along to the MS website and download the relevant templates and you're laughing once again. I'm becoming more and more a believer ... Unless they are trying to operate a home business, most people seem to consider a Desktop Publishing package to be totally superfluous. This is certainly not the case with Microsoft Publisher 2000. The main value of this product is the ability for a novice to create professional results with very little effort. I have personally used it to create my own pictorial business cards, letterheads, flyers for friends to advertise parties or other events and to build a website. In each case the system is the same, choose from a selection of templates and overwrite with your own words and graphics. To change the colour: click the mouse, to change a picture: click the mouse, ... Read the complete review
