“ Type: Ice Cream „
As my addiction to sweet stuff grows I decided to try some more of the ice creams available in the "extra special" range from my local Asda store, and in so doing I will now review my latest find. The product I will now review is "chocolate fudge brownie ice cream" As with the other ice creams available in this range the tub the product comes in is simple yet stylish. The tub is an off white colour with all the writing (ie the brand and product name), in silver. There is also a large picture of the ice cream within, at the bottom of the tub, and trust me the picture does it justice! The picture is simply three generous scoops of the ice cream melting seductively over a tray of freshly baked brownies. The ice cream is described as - "Silky smooth Belgian chocolate dairy ice cream, swirled with an intensely rich and thick chocolate fudge sauce and packed with sweet brownie pieces", ok now I am actually drooling! When you have broke off the safety tab (this ensures the tub has not been previously messed with, as I am sure you all know!), you lift up the lid and are greeted with a tub of dark brown ice cream. The brownie pieces are at this moment in time not visible, but the chocolate sauce is swirled into a spiral across the top of the ice cream. You assume upon first inspection that the sauce is just across the top of the dessert, but upon spooning some out, the sauce is swirled through the entire tub. When you get a few centimetres in you suddenly happen upon the brownie pieces, whether the settle slightly in the freezing process, or this is a deliberate act to stop the cake getting freezer burn I have no idea, but having to dig in to find them is again a delight to the eater. The pieces are large and dark brown in colour, giving the ice cream a mottled look. They are also very delicious, intensely chocolaty and firm and chewy, so (if you are anything like me), when the ice cream has melted away, you are left with these nuggets of chewy gorgeousness! (Do you get the impression that I enjoyed this ice cream, lol!). I am afraid that I simply refuse to state the nutritional information, I feel it takes away my enjoyment some what, lets put it another way, the ingredients read, as most other do, with the highest ranking ingredient (ie the largest quantity first), in this case it is double cream...... ok I rest my case! We all now that things like this should be enjoyed in moderation and as part of a healthy and varied diet, of course I ate the tub in one sitting, the pig that I am, hence the reason I am now re starting my slimming world diet! There are a couple of allergy notes on the back of this tub that are worth mentioning though, these are that this product contains gluten, milk, wheat, eggs and soya and it may contain traces of nuts and seeds. This is, as I mentioned earlier, an Asda's home brand product and is part of there extra special range, this obviously means that purchasing this particular product from elsewhere is highly unlikely, though I am positive that each supermarket has there own dedicated range, so may be available in some other similar format elsewhere. This tub, bearing in mind it is a 1 litre tub, cost me the sum of £2.00, on offer a little while ago. Even when the tubs are at full price they are usually run as part of a "buy 2 for...." offer, so these are always great value. Due to the fact they are from Asda, there is also a "try me, love me" scheme run, where if you are not entirely satisfied with the product, for whatever reason Asda ensure to replace or refund, and they really are very good at things of that nature. So would I recommend....mmm, let me mull it over! YES, YES, YES! This has everything a chocolate lover can possibly ask for, three different varieties of chocolate, albeit in different formats, a delicious price and the option to return if you can't stand it!
