After many years of indulging in Ben & Jerrys ice creams, I felt I needed a change, I have to be honest as much as I enjoy the afore mentioned ice cream I feel it is very costly to purchase so thought I would try one of Asda's own brand makes

I will review the "cookies and cream" ice cream from Asda's extra special range as it is one of the nicest ones I have tried.

~~~~~~ THE ICE CREAM ~~~~~~

The ice cream comes in a 1 litre tub with a delectable picture of the ice cream on the front, two large scoops in a bowl oozing seductively over the sides, with the " extra special" logo running down the left hand side of the tub.

The tub is round in shape with a resealable lid in case you can't eat it all in one go, have to be truthful it hasn't happened to me yet but a nice thought! The label is very sophisticated in colour all creams and silvers, with the afore mentioned picture taking centre stage.

When opened you will find the tub is filled to the top, and does not have the concaved base that so many other ice cream brands do!

The ice cream itself is bright white in colour, with large chunks of chocolate cookies pieces and swirls of chocolate sauce, ok so I'm salivating now!

~~~~~~ THE TASTE ~~~~~~

This ice cream is not too rich, but extremely creamy, with just the right amount of cookie and chocolate sauce to ice cream , it is unfortunately very Moorish, hence the reason I have yet to use the reaselable lid!


~~~~~~ THE DREADED CALORIES AND CONTENTS! ~~~~~~

There are of course quite a lot of calories in this product, for just 1/10th of the tub there are 157kcal, but this product can boast no, colours, flavourings or preservatives. There is also no hydrogenated fat and is suitable for vegetarians.

I won't bore you with an ingredients list, but on checking it just makes me drool even more, it is made mostly of skimmed milk and double cream, I can of course feel justified on eating it after seeing the "skimmed milk" bit!!!


~~~~~~ PRICE AND AVAILABILITY ~~~~~~

This product is readily available from the freezer section and at present is on offer. It is normally just shy of three pounds a tub, but can be purchase at the moment for two tubs for £4.00, what a bargain!!
There are about twelve different variety's ranging from greek yoghurt and honey to sicillian lemon sorbet, which my husband is particularly partial to!!

Although I cannot promise to give up Ben & Jerry's, I do feel I can guarantee a break every now and then, this ice cream is everything that it promises to be, EXTRA SPECIAL!
