... jelly, I tear the block into individual squares (which is very easy tear in straight lines, instead of making a mess of different parts of some squares). Then add ½ a pint of boiling water, stir until dissolved, and then add a pint of cold water. Done. I usually wait for it to cool on the kitchen side then add to the fridge. Once the jelly has set it has a nice consistency to it, it isn't too runny and not too hard either. The colour isn't a very rich red colour, but still smells like strawberry. When taking a bite, ...more

I'm not a big Jelly fan usually, but me and my flatmates at uni were throwing a kids style flat party. Making fairy cakes, putting out a few nibbles for our friends, party hats, party poppers, punch, aswell as lots of alcohol and of course Vodka Jelly! On a tight student budget we weren't really looking for any top named brands, after all we would probably be all to drunk to notice how good something tasted anyway! So, four of us went to our local Asda and were on the jelly aisle. If it had been my choice I wanted to buy the rowntrees jelly, only 35p or so per pot but then my flatmate said "noo lets just get this 7p smartprice jelly". So I thought to ...  Read the complete review

I am always on the lookout for a bargain, this the same for food products, I know there are many things that can't be scrimped on, but I am willing to try the cheaper brands at least once to determine if there is any savings to be had. My son has just discovered the delights that is jelly, so on a recent shopping trip I saw a bargain to be had. The product I will now review is - "Smartprice strawberry jelly" Now I do normally have to sample the things that I end up either cooking or making, this is no hardship when it comes to puddings! I have never liked crystal jellies, these being the ones that come in powder form, these ...  Read the complete review

I'm not a huge fan of jelly, but my daughter is, occasionally I make a jelly for her for puddings for a couple of days. Whilst browsing the different jellies available from Asda's grocery website I came across this Smart Price strawberry jelly. At 6p for a 128g block I had to give it a go. * Packaging * The jelly comes in the basic white and green Smart Price packaging. It contains all of the usual nutritional information, cooking instructions and ingredients. * Taste * When I make up the jelly, I tear the block into individual squares (which is very easy tear in straight lines, instead of making a mess of different parts of ...  Read the complete review

One up for Asda, another quality product (440 words)

I have recently become a fan of own supermarket brands as like everyone I`m trying to save money for nicer things. I bought this product from my local asda a week ago, I wanted to make a trifle and my usual boxed one was retailing at well over a pound, so I bought this jelly for 8p for a 128 gram block and an instant custard for 9p with a pot of fresh cream, which was reduced incidentally. My packaging was green and white, which is a boring packaging but I`m interested in the contents not the packaging. On taking it out of the packet, there were 12 squares to break up into a jug, the jelly was a good consistancy, a rich red and smelt of ...  Read the complete review

Asda's Smartprice Strawberry Jelly: Can A Decent Jelly Really Only Cost 7p? (315 words)

It was my mum that first introduced me to this jelly. I usually buy rowntrees but whilst at her house I tried this jelly and thought for the price it wasn't bad. Having a 15 month old who cn chop and change his mind about whether he likes something or not I am always on the lookout to try and save wherever I can. I decided to pick up a couple when I was in Asda recently and gave it a try. The instructions are the same as a usual jelly mix, break up the cubes which is easy as it is already separated into same sized pieces, add half a pint of boiling water and stir until the cubes dissolve. Once a liquid, top upto a pint with cold water ...  Read the complete review
