“ Type: Ice Cream „
I told my dad to go out and buy some ice cream and I meant ben and jerrys but he brought back this instead which I was slightly disappointed about! lol The ice cream comes in a plain white tub with a green and white label on with nutritional info. It has a picture of the ice cream on the front but it doesn't really look that appealing. I think keeping the packaging simple helps keep costs down. The ice cream is in three sections, pink, white and brown. It is flavoured with artificial flavours of strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. It claims to be soft scoop however I leave this out for a good ten minutes before i scoop as it always makes my spoon bend back on itself. I sometimes even nuke it in the microwave on defrost for a few seconds. Make sure you replace the lid properly after you scoop some out or else it will develop massive ice crystals on the top which is nasty. Flavour wise...they all pretty much taste the same. Well the strawberry one is a tiny bit more fruity and the chocolate one has the taste of cheap drinking chocolate. I reckon it is all the same ice cream only they've added a tiny bit of artificial flavour and colour to the strawberry and chocolate sections lol. This is a good plain ice cream for ice cream sundaes for kiddies if you put a bit of syrup and sweets on, however I would not serve it up for a dinner party. It is not very 'creamy' and I reckon it has lots of air pumped into it as after a serving of it I'm craving more right away. I would rather have one portion of good quality ice cream than loads of cheap ice cream. The ice cream is cheap at less than a pound for a 2 litre box. I don't have the nutritional info anymore as I binned the box however it's ice cream so it's not exactly gonna be healthy, especially with extras like sauce poured on top of it. I'd reccomend this for kids who don't really care about the taste of it as it's cheap and plentiful but for a good quality comfort ice cream it's a no no :P
I don't eat ice cream very often but I like to have a big tub of it in the back of the freezer for those rare moments when I do fancy some. Because I only have it very occasionally, I like to buy the cheapest one and, as this big tub only costs 92p, it's excellent value and the one that I opt for every time. My favourite ice cream flavour is strawberry, whereas my husband's is chocolate so, to please both us, I always go for the Neapolitan ice cream. Inside, the tub is filled to the very top with three different flavours of ice cream - chocolate (brown), vanilla (yellow) and strawberry (pink). Not only does this give us a bit of variety on the flavours we can have but it also means that we both have our favourite flavour in the one tub. Despite strawberry always being my favourite ice cream flavour, the chocolate in this is probably the best flavour. It has the most promiment taste whereas the other two seem to lack in flavour a little bit and aren't quite as strong or tasty. The chocolate one is delicious and I never usually eat chocolate ice cream so it has to be good! The vanilla flavour is just vanilla flavour - there's really not much to say about it! I generally don't eat this one as it's too boring and tasteless for me and this one tastes just the same as any other vanilla ice cream. The strawberry is quite sweet and lovely tasting although, as I said above, doesn't have a very strong fruity taste, so probably isn't the best strawberry ice cream you can get. The ice cream in this gets very hard if you've kept it at the back of the freezer for ages like we do, but if you leave it out for a few minutes it gets softer and is much easier to scoop. It isn't as creamy as better brands of ice cream but if you want to go cheap then I'd definitely recommend it. Overall, I do really like this ice cream and think that it is excellent value, quality and taste for a Smart Price product. And seeing as Asda don't seem to do any other tubs of Neapolitan ice cream, then this is really your only choice anyway!
