Advantages: See Review.
Disadvantages: None For Me.
I cooked my first ever "proper" meal yesterday which is a proper miracle for me because usually I cant even cook beans on toast without messing it up but anyway I think it was a big success. Since Id made all the dinner from scratch I didnt really want to make a really complicated desert so I went to Morrisons and bought one of these Aunt Bessies pies for everyone to eat after the dinner. I seem to remember eating this flavour once before but it was so long ago I couldnt remember what it tasted like so I just popped it into my basket and went home.
Cooking Instructions:
On the box it atually states you are supposed so sort of baste the top on pie with egg or milk and sprinkle on some sugar to prevent it burning, now I never did that and I didnt think it was an issue but you can do it whichever way you like I guess.
You simply pop this is the oven (Gas Mark 4) for 45 minutes making sure to turn the pie around (I have no idea why) about half way through. And then hey presto its cooked.
When this was cooked a scooped out a couple of spoonfulls into some dishes and put some whipped cream on it. You could also use normal runny cream, ice cream, custard or pretty much anything you like, maybe chocolate :P.
The pie does tend to fall apart a little bit when your trying to remove it from the cooker but this doesnt effect the taste so why should it matter. A think crumbly pastry is actually quite a good sign to be honest.
The Taste:
This tasted absolutely delicious. The cherries inside the pie werent a horrible mess of mush but proper totally whole, juicy cherries that tasted really fresh. The cherries are really large but I actually prefer those to the normal pies and they are really sweet and fresh. I was actually surprised because normally with these packaged pies its all artificial and packed additives but this one really does taste home made.
The pastry is proper nice as well. Its really crumbly and soft and even though I didnt add any milk or eggs to the top of it I found that mine didnt burn at all. Even the pastry is quite sweet but the whole sweet taste is to sickly and wont leave you feeling sick. It will just leave you feeling full and that sweet tooth will be well and truly satisfied.
